i've been bodybuilding training since 2003 and moderate weight training since high school. i'd feel like a fraud if i looked like i didnt care about my own body and was telling people how to train.
im 24 years old now. i havent lined up any jobs anywhere yet. most places wont even interview you until you get certified (well at least the good ones).
I dont have a client base yet so i'll prolly have to end up working for a franchise gym like golds, nysc, or bally's. anyone have any suggestion which would be a good gym to work for? and which pays the best? i live just outside nyc so there's a huge demand for personal trainersLast edited by operationgetbig; 04-27-2009 at 02:08 PM.

Franchise Gym... Stay away from LA Fitness, they pay horribly. 24 hour fitness pays well and since Bally's is owned by 24, I would assume you could make good money there as well. I know Golds pays pretty good too, but from the trainers I know that have worked at the above stated, 24 hour fitness has paid the best and provides bonuses for selling trainer sessions and what not.

it's definately difficult if u dont study. human movement and assessing muscle imbalances is a huge part of the test. knowing specifically the isolated function of each muscle is important. you have to know which muscles to stretch and which to strengthen, for example, if you notice someone has an arched lower back during an overhead squat assesment which muscle are overactive (hip flexor complex, and erector spinae). or if your feet turn out durning a squat which muscles need to be strengthened. lotta real specific questions. the test is definately hard but passable. u really need to study hard tho and take practice test and do a lotta memorization. the proctor told me most people fail it the first time and take it 2 or 3 times. i studied my ass off cause its 99 bucks to take a retest.
