Help me pick a car...
I'm looking for a second 'fun' car. The budget is around 15-17k. I figured why not test a c5? I found one, 98 in mint condition with a couple mods (intake/exhaust). I was not impressed... at all.
Part of the problem is that I'm used to sportbikes. My last fun car was an 88 stang with 600 wheel horse power that ran low 11's. So this car just felt SLOOOOW. I was also a little let down by the interior. There's tons of gimicky features but the leather is crap, everything is cheap plastic. I guess thats the tradeoff though. I will say the car turns amazingly, gets great gas mileage, and has a terrific shift gate.
Help me pick something fast and fun to drive for under 20k that's not going to blow up. I'm still leaning toward a stock c5 with low miles then adding a blower for that extra kick. I'm thinking a cobra might be cool (2003) but I'm not sure about their reliability and I hear they suck at shifting. What else should I be looking at???Last edited by F4iGuy; 06-23-2009 at 08:37 PM.

I like the WRX, I've always been into big HP hotrods, but I've ridden in a few of those that were just a blast.

I never drove one but they seem like fun. I guess I should also mention the car I'm looking for has to be rear wheel or all wheel drive and stick. All said and done (power adder/heads, etc.) I want this toy to cost under 20k and get me into the 12's in the quarter.

The 2003 Cobras are very reliable, I don't know where you heard they wern't. I see them get the shit beat out of them more than almost any other car, and they still run like a dream. Also have no idea what you mean by the are bad for shifting? Are you still new to manual? Anyway, I would recommend a Cobra for sure, and you could put twins tubes on her without having to change anything. If it were me personally though I would probably built an older 67-72 Nova or 80's Vette.

Can't go wrong with a C5 or Cobra, good choices. I'd love to tweek a C5, or you could save some money and get a GTO. The LS motors in the C5 or GTO are wiked to modify.

I work on Fords, there's nothing wrong with the Cobra's. I'm a ford guy through and through.
That being said I have put clutches in a Lancer evo and a WRX in the past 3 months. The WRX would have walked all over the EVO. Very impressive, very impressive.

I had a 98 Cobra. Got the oil changed and they didn't put enough in so the engine threw a rod. Had that rebuilt and after the rebuild they didn't put any trans fluid in, so I smoked all the gears. $4k for the engine and $3500 for the tranny. It sucked. Wasn't the cars fault... it had over 80,000 miles and never a single problem. I miss her dearly.
