Anyone else a PC builder ?

Just threw a new rig together:

    XP Home
    C2Q Q9550 (S-Spec)
    ZALMAN|9700 LED
    GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P rev1.6
    CORSAIR DOMINATOR 1066 5-5-5-15 2T
    XFX 8800GTX Extreme 768MB 600/1900
    CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX

Nothing is overclocked yet but i am looking at taking the CPU to 3.6G's on air then replacing the video card. The 8800 pretty much tears up all my current games so i didn't see a need to put out another 500.00 on a good video card. Although when the time comes i have my eye set on that Nvidia 295 gtx , oh sweet mama can't wait !!

Wow, that is a great setup you got there!

I am in the computer business but mostly for business applications...but I know a good rig when I see one!

Congrats and have fun with it!

I build custom PC's for local business around where I live. Besides that I am a Network Administrator. But I still love to build a computer when I get the time.

By the way, you have a nice setup there DSM

I just now noticed that you said nothing was overclocked yet.... whoops.

By the way, I haven't looked into the Ali Vs. Tyson game, but I assume you can run it on DirectX 9? Or are you porting DX10 for Vista on your XP system?

I built my computer probably 5 years ago...

It's been ok since then because haven't been playing any games except WOW.
Mostly use my laptop for everything, but probably will build a new computer this fall as I'd like something more powerfull again.

    8300 2.5ghz
    8GB 1066mhz RAM

Yea, i been reading about people pushing the CPU (default 2.89) to an easy 3.6. The air flow on this case is really good and with the after market heatsink i should be able to get to 3.8 on air. The S-specs running cooler as well.

Not sure if i want to chance the DX10 in vista just yet. I have watched games in DX10 and they are amazing. It's a shame Vista sucks so much. I refuse to ever go to that OS. Ill wait for windows7.

Five years ! I am lucky if i get two years out of my systems. After that i get bored with them and upgrade them. Although its A LOT cheaper when you can do it yourself.

    DSM,

I was an extreme overclocker, use LN2 "liquid nitrogen". Have built a cascade cooler which uses 2 large rotary compressors. It can hold a 300w Loaded CPU at around -104oC. Been into PC's for years as it kept me away from drinking when i was boxing.

    My current spec:
    Gigabyte X58 EXTREME
    920 D0 CPU @ 4.2ghz
    6GB Corsair dominator @ 2000mhz 9-9-9-21
    4890 Gfx card.
    1000w Enermax galaxy PSU
2x 64 GB SSD drives in RAID 0
    3x 1TB HDD

I dont do any overclocking as much as i use to due to gym and my job of working away lots.

But you need any advice on overclocking or stuff fire me a PM mate

    i7-920 quad-core 2.66
    9gb DDR3
    4870 HD gfx card
    1TB HDD

    Gets the job done

Nice. My next project is going to be a liquid cooled PC. Like everyone says with work and gym there isn't much time to tinker which is why i keep things simple; decent parts with a decent OC is normally more than enough for what i do. When i have extra time i will no doubt go LQ and hit you up.

I never had any issues with running games, but I haven't pushed it to its limits yet either. I guess I did it more as a "gotcha" to Microsoft. But I have had no problems with it yet.

But, Windows 7 should be fully ready in another 10 years (give or take another 10), your best bet may be to just wait for it.

Im going to do my research on it. Even when windows7 comes out ill still wait another 2 years. I never buy a OS when its first released. I am more than happy with XP.

I have always been a Mac person first, Linux second, and Microsoft a very distant third. But I am pleased with XP (as much as it pains me to say it.)

Congrats, DSM. I'm pretty decent when it comes to machining and metal fab but building a computer is WAAAY out of my league/comfort zone.

    DSM,
Windows 7 is much better, the final RTM is out now and is much more stable than vista ever was. It can be activated and have full updates and work as good as the retail "when it gets released"

Water cooling is simple mate, rad, pump, tubing, blocks and resevior. When you interested let me know i am a Moderator on a overclocking forum so keep in lingo with all the latest hardware.
