Got 3rd in my class. Talk to judges and was told I would have won first if I had more color. Just have a lot of mix emotions about what happened....
In order from left to right
4th, 2nd, 1st, 3rd, 5th

This is just the one pic of what I have of the night show from someone's camera.
Will upload of more of the pics from prejudging when they come online.

Congrats Reed. This is just one of many to come!
Also, what does more color mean?
-
08-09-2009, 10:42 AM #11
I needed more tanning.
-
Good work Reed, can't wait to see the other pictures. Don't tread on it too hard.
-
Great job bro, 3rd for a first show is fvcking awesome lol...

I agree but think he looks way better than the 1st place winner by far. Didn't know a shade darker makes the difference between 1st and 3rd in this sport? Especially when the 3rd place winner is more ripped and bigger then the 1st place winner! Makes no sense to me looking at that pic but still, 3rd in first comp isn't too bad bro. Just more hell you gotta give em next time for first.

Congrats Reed 3rd is Great mate

Well done Reed ..... you look great!!!

Idk cus reed looks golden tan (I assume thats ideal for bbing comps!) and the 1st place winner looks red! 2nd place winner looks like he might have some more detail in his arms (bis and tris only) but has no forearms, no back width, weak chest, should i go on? This is comparing him to reed. First place winner, i dont see how hes a first place winner.
I looked at that group pic before even reading who was who and just by looking at it i judged who should have won and what places they all should have got. Reed for sure stands out the most in that pic imo. Hes the only one who can raise his arms up in that pose and still see an outline of a built chest, others like the 1st and 2nd place winners their chest disappears when they strike that pose.Last edited by wukillabee; 08-09-2009 at 11:45 AM.

You look the best to me in that pic. Definately the best v-taper.

Good job Reed, I have seen many competitors get knocked down a place or two for not having enough color. My wife got dinged for it last year at the USA's. It cost her a top 10 finish (got 14th out of 33). Consider it a lesson learned and move on. You will have it fixed by next week not to mention you will be harder and dryer. Very proud of you my man! You are officially a "Bodybuilder" now.
As far an anyone making a call on how they see the placings off of that one picture are off the mark. First of all it's from the night show and not the prejuding and looks change tremendously in those 12 hours. It's one shot and there are 7 mandatories. And it's way too far away to make an accurate assessment on conditioning.

Good job !! Dont sweat what you placed this time, from what I can see your conditioning was very good and thats what you should worry about. Like Fire said, everything else will come together.

If it makes you feel any better I was chatting with Ronnie Rowland after his first show a month or two ago and he said the same thing. His color was off and he was certain it cost him a placing or two.
-
haha exactly. I must be color blind or something... They all look the same to me, except for maybe a fraction of a shade. But Reed is the biggest, and just as ripped or more ripped than the others..
Oh well Reed. You did great, no question. ANd like FireGuy said, lesson learned, and just crush em' next time, cuz thats whats gonna happen lol.
Your the winner in my book bro.

Good job reed, and I agree you did have the best body (no homo) when compared to the rest of the competition.

congrats man, by that one shot i think you definatly look better than they guy who got first, your quads delts lats arms all look fuller to me. did you get one of those sweet looking swords that were on the back wall?
-
08-09-2009, 03:28 PM #27
Congrats but I'm confused. This is what I see compared to 1st..
You have a bigger lat spread. Bigger quads. Bigger tris, Bigger chest? Where does he have you beat?

#1 & #2 have no lats or back compared to you...so I wouldn't take it personally.

Congratulations !!! I just don't get how they can take that much off cause you weren't dark enough. I know when I competed, there was no such thing as too dark, and was painting even the morning of the show. But to go through all that work and diet and everything to only get third because of color???? you looked bigger, more cut and fuller than the guy in second !!!
oh well, get the black spray paint can out for next weeks comp!!
good luck

Sorry been asleep and resting most of the time just exhausted as hell from only 2 hours of sleep yesterday then after my show had to go film my friends music performance in which I was up for a total of 24 hours yesterday and dehydrated most of the time.
I hope I can get some better pics but probably not, they don't have the best photographers for these shows in my state.
This pic was from the night show, I was darker during the night show and I was told by a few I needed more color so I did. I expected another pose down round but I guess thats not how they did it in these levels shows. Just 2 rounds. A pose down, your posing music and trophies awarded.
I'll give you my honest opinion. I feel like most that I was given the shaft. If people think thats shitty that I question the judges well I'm sorry. I was definitely bigger in all points, poses, and my condition was on point with the others if not better. I'm not delusional and I know what I saw. Especially the crowds reaction when we all hit this front double bi and I could just hear in the crowd they were seeing the same thing you all are
After prejudging everyone had me winning this class and the guy placing 4th in second. Even the competitors in the class thought I had it. Apparently not.
My class wasn't the only one that was iffy that was for sure
My parents were there and just thought it was a total sham and the event was a completely unorganized mess and to lose over a couple shades of color to them is a load of shit. They though it was bodybuilding not tanning. We talked after the show for a while and want me to give it some real consideration and concern if I should pursue this sport (going pro) for health and monetary reasons.
This sport is all about opinions the judges have theirs and here is mine.

^^ thats just it. Sometimes the judges have it already picked before you even step on stage. It sucks that it can be political at times after you put all that MONEY and TIME and EFFORT into that ONE day....
and the judges could be looking for something different or have a guy already in mind they want to see advance to pro..
thats part of the reason I stopped competing...
well good luck with your next comp

Either way mate, well done hopefully things will work out better for you next time.
-
I am pissed at the placings.
1st and 2nd have no back or legs.
Reed is bigger and harder than both... His symmetry is better as well.
Reed had fricking striations in his lower glutes for Pete's sake.
This pic is from the night show... and he was even harder at the prejudging.
WTF is that?
-
Whats done is done lol, no matter what we think or say, the rustult stands and theres no changing it.
Its time to look to the future Reed lol, if this had just happened to me it would make me more determined. Id make sure that the next time i got on that stage, the judges would have no choice but to award you the win.
Just my 2cents..

Yeah, you might want to work on the mental side of BB. I don't think there is any sport more political than BB. Imagine how Cutler felt getting 2nd all those years knowing damn well he looked better than Ronnie sometimes.
Seems like the Pro's understand and accept the BS politics that come with the sport. It would definately be hard to take but you can't get pissed, just move on to the next one.***No source checks!!!***

In 2000 I placed 2nd to a guy that was 5 weeks out from the comp he "really" wanted to do.
REEEEEED I LOVE YOU MAN BUT,
BBing is a great precentage politics.
Just cause you have the best conditioning, _________, _______, and ________ does not mean you will win.
I know the pain.
I feel the pain.
It is wrong.
But *rarely* does a guy win his first show even when he deserves it.
The judges look at little Timmy that they got to know for the last 3 years and figure F it its Timmy's turn.
A few women that DO NOT NOT NOT deserve thier pro cards have got the card for other reasons than condition, size, fitness....
