Alcohol: What is considered too much?

If you knew someone was drinking a bottle of wine every evening, would you consider that too much/problematic?

Encourage him/her not to drink on occassion. If he/she chooses not to, then the alcohol is most likely being used to hide an issue that will continue to only grow deeper if the issues is not addressed. Lots of people turn to alcohol so they can obtain a false sense of reality and while it may make them feel a bit better at the moment, the problem is still there.

Removing the alcohol from an alcoholic is not the cure because the problem that makes him/her want to turn to alcohol is still present.

a lot of peole go through a bottle of wine a night....wey alot of people i know...most do it to wind down after hard day at work....

IMO i see it as exsesive but who am i to judge someone.....i binge drink....i dont drink that often but when i party i party hard!!!

i dont see how it would improve anything the person is doing. if you have time to drink a bottle of wine everynite then you probally not getting alot of stuff done that you should.

i wouldnt consider it a problem unless they HAVE to drink the wine...
if they enjoy a bottle, which is about 4 glasses, i dont think it is way overboard...

everyone relaxes different, however if they need the wine, may have a problem...

Haha, it's not me but it is someone in my family.

If you rationalise one bottle as only 4 glasses, then it doesnt seem bad. But by the end of the second evening its 8 glasses, evening 3 you've hit 12 glasses, not even middle of the week truly. By the end of the week its what, 28 glasses?

Well nationality and culture have a pretty strong impact on this too.

In certain countries drinking is frowned upon, in other countries its encouraged.
Its common for italians to have a glass of wine with their dinner, its common for irish to drink a 6 pack everyday before 8pm.

So its hard to say whats ok and what isn't. But I would say if the person who was drinking, was bothered by the amount they were drinking, that then, if would DEFINENTLY be a problem.
