health insurance switch. how to do it without getting raped?

Ok, so I've had this health insurance for 2 years now (individual), and I want to change companies. Problem is that I get a scrip for adderall and some allergy pills. Doesnt this mean the new company wont cover them because its a "pre existing condition"?

No point in switching if they wont cover my scrips, but my current insurance keeps inching up my premiums! They are double what they were 2 years ago.

Most people think I'm a retard, maybe I am

But I've been self employeed for most of my life, and am 29 years old now, and have never had any medical insurance.

Knock the shit out of some wood, nothing serious has ever happend to me.

But if I break my arm tomorrow, I'm still coming out ahead.

I have no medical condition, I don't need $200 in anti-depressants, I'd love some adderal, but my doctor won't give it to me anyway (i hate him). I go to the dentist 1 time ever 2 years, I go to the doctor never (last physical was when i was 23).

I've yet to have a cavity, I spit in a tube and send it in for hormone test after a cycle (just over 100 bucks).

If I bought insurance independently it would cost me almost 3k a year, for 12 years or 36k so far and I'd cost the insurance company nothing.

I'd be paying every month to help pay for all the other clients anti-depressants, family counciling, 2 monthly back rubs and a monthly visit to get the ol' back cracked.

No wonder it cost 3k a year?

I agree with 100% of your post. If it weren't for the monthly adderall scrip, I would just cancel the insurance. It would cost me probably around $120 a month to get it filled without ins, so it is as if my ins costs $120 less per month.

I know that you never want to tell them anything when you first sign up because they are just looking for reasons to either charge you more or not cover something. I don't believe that they have any way of checking my past medical history......

I can't speak for all insurance companies, but the ones I got quotes from last year won't cover a pre-existing condition for the first 30 days and then coverage begins for them.

true... when getting insurance on your own there is usually a waiting period... with some its actually 1yr (found this out when i had my own business). if you get it through work, then the date its activated, your covered...all conditions, pre-existing or new.

everyone is different. But usually if you have had no lapse in coverage there isn't a waiting period. so don't cancel your current insurance before your new insurance stops
