Its sad to here he will be gone for so long, maybe he should put in for a home curfew via Tag in a couple of months time, i know they will look at it if he keeps his nose clean inside.
All the best Matt and keep smiling.

I don't care what anyone says, but even 1 year in prison is a LONG TIME. And it is not easy. For people who don't know what its like, I want you to believe me 100% when I say I would rather DIE, then go back into that world.
It really is worse then being dead.
But I want to throw out real quick on a 2 year sentence (if hes from US) that would be a state sentence obviously cause its over 12 months.
But he would be eligible for parole in 1/3 of 2 years, which is 8 months not 12.
And hes also eligible for a half way house from the FIRST DAY his sentence starts (need to be within 18months of your parole eligibility) so he may not even spend over a month behind actual bars. Halfway houses still blow but at least you get furloughs and to work in the real world with a real job.

This sucks. I doubt this thread will make it to him cause they usually open all mail before you get it. At least mine did. One thing to think about though. When the parole board comes and offers early release, do you really want it? I know 2 years is a long time but they'll have you on parole for probably a couple additional years. Promising you that you'll be off in no time if you keep your nose clean. In my opinion it's just another way to keep you in the system. Something to think about.
They offered me parole and i told them hell no. I already knew that if i did my full sentence i was a free man with NO parole whatsoever. It sucked after they left knowing that i would of been back in the real world in a few weeks, but i knew it was the right thing to do. I was already there so might as well finish it off with nothing hanging over my head. One of the best days of my life was when i walked out of that mother fvcker completely free. No one to report to and not giving the state another dime.
Just something to think about. Remember that they might try to hem you up on any little thing on parole.
Keep your head up and don't take any shit. Oh yea, make sure you beat the hell out of that first guy you fight so everyone else takes notice. And you will fight, so be ready bro.
Looking forward to seeing you back!!

Yeh I guess realistically speaking it really isn't.
One thing I did notice in prison though is some dude would have like an 8 month bid to do and just had a terrible experience while guys serving 20 years had nothing really happen during their stay.
And it depends on your race, personality and how well you can cope living with the largest scum on earth.
A bid can go wrong from day one, a fight, lock up, another fight next week, you get jumped, a bunch of bloods wanna kill you cause your white and have a bit of money. That was basically my position.
People did not like me cause I was white and more privelaged and they knew it by the way I spoke.
Which is why my bid turned into a nightmare.
I don't speak slang, I just don't have that low class attitude a lot of prisoners do, which is why I spent my entire bid watching my back. Not to mention I was walking prey at 5' 4", 145lbs back then.
Other guys don't have to deal with that shit, so yeh they can have a smooth bid.
Mine just wasn't smooth at all. I was transfered 14 times in a 1 1/2 years, got into 2 fights, lock up once, PC once, daily threats towards me and my family just cause I wasn't black or from the ghetto.
So yeh it def depends on how well you "mix" with the population. If you're a true pos criminal, the time really won't be that bad at all cause you'll have a lot of similar people around you. If you're a mid class white boy from the burbs, your fvcked.
