football vrs rugby
ive played both . both great games . but hell rugby is a lot more phyical . its a much tougher game . no pads for protection . scrums where you nearly get you shoulders ripped off . no helmets either . got to say football is like having sex while wearing a condom . you know your playing but you just dont get the same hit out of it .

How can you compare football to rugby???.......in football you use your feet and a round ball and in rugby you use an egg shaped ball and your arms......

We already have a thread like this...as a rugby player, I must say both sports are rough and difficult in their own respects. That being said, this debate will rage on until the end of time.

Here we go again...

LOL, funny how we were just talking about this huh BgMc?
I just shut up a friend about rugby last week, but I don't have time to post right now, nor do I care to as this topic has been beaten to death and no one ever changes their views, even with facts in their face.

It's a different sport. What position did this guy play in American football? Rugby is much more cardio intensive than American football. Nobody is doubting that. Soccer is also more cardio intensive. American football is based on short burst of energy with maximum effort applied. I always hear this crap about an American football player trying rugby and struggling, but you never hear of a Rugby player even trying to play American football, unless he is trying to be a kicker.
Two different games, quit trying to minimize another game in order to prop up the game you love.

no see m8 you got that wrong i love soccer thats my main sport that and pool . but ive played rugby and american football . and love both games . what im saying is rugby is a much more intense game . its tougher on the body
and i dont many people in any sport at all would push this guy around

more intense?
I think getting hit by say...someone like Dwight Freeney who is 6'1'', 266lbs, running a 4.38 40. would be way more intense than getting hit by any rugby player.
hell, larry allen, benched 700 lbs, ran a 4.7 40...who is 6'3'', 325lbs....holy ****...if that aint intense, I dont know what is. You can take your 200lbs, 5.2 40 time ass elsewhere lol
Like BgMc said.....endurance cardio, rugby takes the cake. But you rugby in the nfl, and all they can do is be a kicker...if even that.... c'mon now...

he is big m8 that dont mean he is stronger or faster. im only 5ft7-8 . and i can lft a lot more than some of bigger guys that come into our gym
-

So that rookie I posted, Orakpo, lets see....
6'4'', 264lbs, runs a 4.52 40. benches 225 for 31 reps, max 520, squatting 600. has a 42 inch vertical, at 8 percent body fat....and still getting bigger and stronger and faster.
find me a rugby player that can match that....Im still waiting on that one dude you posted a pic of too....lol
-
Mario Williams: 6'6", 294 lbs, 40 time: 4.7 / Bench: 225 35 times / Vertical: 40 1/2 inches.. 7.5-8% body fat.
care to match that one also? lol
Let me find a kickers stats...maybe you can match that one hahaaa
okay, im done.Last edited by xlxBigSexyxlx; 09-29-2009 at 02:51 PM.

I'll put it this way BigSexxy...when I played (from 96-99) I was 6'3 5/8" 267lbs, ran 4.78, 38" vert, 225lb 36 times, broad jump 10' 2, and I rode the pine or played on the practice squad throughout my career. I had also benched 545lb, squatted 770lb, and pulled 7 8 0lb in a NASA comp in '97. So that should tell you the type of athletes that play in the NFL. I couldn't see the field if I wanted to at that level. I was just thankful to be on the team!!! LOL!!!!
-
hahaha yeah I know! Case closed! I think these rugby lovers just don't have a damn clue to how top level nfl players are. They always say they are just overweight fat wimps. All while their 220 pound ass can't run as fast, jump as high, or lift as much as a 300 pound man....
With that being said, your fat ass better watch out!! Someone is looking for your big, fat, slow, weak ass! They have no pads either, so you better be scared! Hey I think I can see a bit of a quad muscle on one of them...heck maybe they can squat 200 pounds

like i said bigger dont mean stronger . the all blacks the picture above are one of the best teams in the world . they are amazing . the speed they play at is unreal . the strength some of the players have uncanny . and like you said no pads for protection . just thier skinny wee bodies lol .

You keep saying that, yet you fail to post up any stats. Talk is cheap, lets see some facts.
Well lets see, I'll help ya out just a bit. Forwards are generally the big daddies on the field. around an average height of 6'1'', and weight if 219 lbs. running a 5.1 40 time with a 23in vertical! LOL be lucky to get into a good high school football team!
Ill stop there, its not even worth it to look for weight lifting stats..
Now I can see why you failed to put up any stats.....
And lets not go to the whole padded vs unpadded thing....unless you want to...ill be back later today.Last edited by xlxBigSexyxlx; 09-30-2009 at 06:35 AM.

If you like rugby because its how you were raised or because they are good cardio endurance athletes and thats your thing, fine. Just stop trying to bash another sport to make yours look better, because BgMc and I will tear your apart all day everyday lol....that is all
its like comparing apples to oranges, ufc to boxing, etc....

Keep in mind retards that football players can achieve those stats because of how the game is played. Football is explosive, but you are at a stop way more than actually in action. Each play is a matter of seconds.
Rugby is on-going. I played club Rugby for over a year, played football for almost a year, both are different games. In Rugby you stop for fvck all; it's constant, and a lot of things happen during this time.
A football player would get raped in a rugby game, as he is used to the few seconds of explosiveness, and a rugby player is conditioned to exert strength, power and speed over a period of time and therefore would be unable to match the same attributes exerted in the few seconds of a football game.
Just like how any MMA or UFC fighter, even a Muay Thai fighter, would get his a$$ knocked out in a boxing ring (boxing rules), yet a boxer could not hold his own in an MMA setting or a Muay Thai ring (MMA/Muay Thai rules).
Do I always have to be the one to shed light on everything around here?
Case closed. Now everybody stfu.

thats sort of what i have been trying to say except i dont have the same skill in writing as you .
at sexless . i was not raised with rugby . it was a game i feel into . i was not putting football down . i think the game is great . i just dont think these lads could cope with being battered constantly with no padding on . but hey if i said the sky was blue you would argue with me .

listen retard^^^^^^^
im tired of hearing about the cardio point of the game. yes rugby is much more non stop then football but its not a constant sprint.
if u were to take a smaller bunch of NFL players like recievers and defensive backs, they could easily get into rugby shape, and still maintain there 4.3-4.4 speeds with there strength.
making them the same size or bigger then the big guys in rugby while still running them under the table..
there is no comparsion between NFL and rugby players.
-
09-30-2009, 07:25 AM #39
Has anyone played offensive or defensive line? That is way more intense than the tackling... try battling it out like those guys do. Nothing compares to that on brute force and intensity.
-
09-30-2009, 07:32 AM #40
at top level in either sport.......im sure they would be able to adapt to the other sport...i.e A top American football player with a few months training would most probably be able to play top class rugby and vice versa.......
my opinion counts for zero as i have limited experience in both.......
id like to hear opinions from people who have played in both for a good few years.....so they are not biased..........99% of rugby players will diss American footbal and vice versa....and supporters will do the same.....
Bigsexy.....have you played Rugby or American football?
Countryboy....have you played Rugby or American football?
