It's actually pretty cool. It's been 10+ years but Fisherman's Wharf is nice. I also took the ferry over to Alcatraz and checked that out. Lots of cool restaurants and bars too. I imagine the cable cars would be cool to do some bar hopping if one was into that kind of thing.

Hey bro, I live not far from the city and have been there tons of times. Alcatraz is cool to visit but it takes a big chunk out of your day. How long are you staying? Fishermans warf is a must do for anyone visiting. Lots of cool shops and great food. A place called "Chowders" serves the best clam chowder and fired zuchinii out of all the resteraunts.
When you park, take a look at your ticket and wee which places you can eat at that will validate your parking. Otherwise it would cost you around $30.00 to park.
China town is great to check out and so is Japan town (yes there is a difference). There is also the chinese rose garden. I have not been there yet but have heard great things about it.
Lombard street is always a tourist atraction to do, just to say you did it. There has been much debate about closing it off to the public so I would do it before they do that.
The SF Zoo is great if you have kids. Even if you don't it is a really great zoo with lots of things to see.
If you hit up market street then there is the shoppers paradise if you are headed there with the old lady. Just about any bus will take you to market and fishermans warf. You can just ask them when you get on and they will let you know.
Whatever you do stay away from castro. You will know when you find it trust me.
Try to avoid talking to the homeless. They can get in your face and make you hit boiling point in 2 seconds flat without being on gear. They are pros on making people just give them money to get them out of their face.

Just so you know. Don't waste you money with the fresh boiled crab at fishermans warf. They crack all the crab and put it in the shell for you. It tastes good but WAY over priced.

I´m actually in the City as we speak. Visiting my sister. The plane trip from norway was a killer (took me about 20 hours). But the place is beautiful. It´s now my 2nd. day here and today we went down to Fishermans Warf, took the cable cars, and went shopping at Market Street. Fishermans W. is def. worth a visit.
Yesterday we went to castro for dinner. I really liked the place, although I didn´t go for the "local specialty" as DSM might have hoped..
Tomorow will be another day for sightseeing, and maybe a walk up to Haighth and Ashburys. For the weekend were going to Vegas. Yihaa!!

There's a cool Tutankhamun exhibit at the DeYoung museum right now if that's something you're interested in. Broadway (x Kearny) is the street with all the strip clubs. Try not to give money or speak to the homeless, they'll mob you. Clam chowder in sourdough bread bowls that you get down by Fisherman's Wharf is one of the best things ever. Alcatraz was a fat waste of time.

I was born there and still ive kind of close. I dont know why people always bring up gays when they think of the city. Its stupid.
Just be careful because its not what out of towners think, make a wrong turn and end up in the wrong neighborhood and you can die!
But for real, its fairly safe if you stick to where the tourist hang out.

Check out the planetarium. They have cool lazer shows there. I got laid on the front lawn of the planetarium one night, was awesome. There were people walking around everywhere which made it that much more exciting. Was the first time I slept with that chick too which added to the coolness. Ok enough about my exploits, have fun and dont get lost.
