    Canon vs Nikon

OK, all you photographers out there, what do you use and why do you use it? I am mostly interested in DSLR cameras. I plan to eventually go pro, but for now I am looking for a good mid level DSLR that can be used professionally without breaking the bank.

My biggest fear is investing in a camera that I find out later on is not what I should have got. Right now I use a Canon G9. t's a great camera, but lacks the DOF that seperates the ametures from the pros. I'm also looking for a camera that will be able to pick up detail in dark areas with mixed lighting. Every time I take a sunset pic with my G9 I have to photoshop it to be able to see the landscape.

    Any advice would be great.

I would take alook at Olympus. Hasslelblad is for the real pros;. Nikon are pretty good too.

Nice. I have always wanted a camcorder with a hard drive.

the canon t1i is nice. i got one when they came out and couldnt be happier with it. it does hd video too which is a nice bonus. pentax has some really great cameras that are better built for way less but i heard they have problems with long exposures and i do mostly night time stuff

I snagged the canon rebel XS about a year ago.

    10mpixel

16gb SD card holds like 3400 pictures (jpg, 10mpixel)

i get about 400-450 pictures for each charge.

i know it's not the best. but i got it for 400, with 16gb card, a nice official canon bag, IS lense, and some other small shit that doesnt matter.

im more than happy with it.

Check out all the reviews on both makes and then go and try one in your hands at a shop, see which one feels better. Ive been doing alot of research myself on DSLR because i am going to buy one soon and I am going to go for a Canon over a Nikon because the Canon suits my needs more and feels better but either you cant go wrong.

Thank you all for the feedback. I am still leaning to the Canon 40D, but I think I'm going to rent both the Canon and a Nikon for a week each to see which one works best for me.
