Where to Stay in Cancun?
Think the Mrs and I are going to forego our annual Cabo trip this year for some time in Cancun. Anyone ever been there before? If so please feel free to recommend some nice places to stay and anything that should be on our "must do/see" list.

I stayed at the bahia principe about an hour south of cancun a couple times with my family. It was very nice. The staff was great and the resort was amazing.

Oasis/Grand Oasis were nice places, a big party hotel though because alot of spring breakers and younger people stay there..
The "ME" cancun is a beautiful place, i met a couple people down there one night and a few of us ended up going back to their hotel with them and they were staying at the ME. Real nice place

What activities are you and your wife into?

^^Pretty much all the tourist stuff. Dinner cruises, Snorkeling, Sight seeing, Hitting the local hot spots. She wants to do some ziplining but think I would find that too frightening to actually enjoy.

There are more resorts in this State than any other state in the world.
If you are going to stay in the Hotel Zone any one of them would work.
Get on UltraMar and go to Isla Mujeres. Take a taxi to Parka Nacional Garrafon. Its $60-$70 a person for all day zipline, snorkel, dinner, and so on.
Xcaret is also great. You can dive in accross for $50 person. You do not have to be certified divers.
Xel-Ha is alright.
There are many great clubs. There will be a major performer each and every week. Snoop Dog was at DaddyO a or two ago, I really do not keep up with that.
Chicken Itza is alright.
I would suggest Isla Cantoy. PM and I will give a few names of boat captains you can bribe... Lol
Dinners are alright. What food do you and your wife like and I tell you the place?

I will definately PM you prior to going, I have been to Mexico 6 times and there is great value in knowing a few locals. We love dining out but still eat clean pretty much year round. Steak, Seafood and we LOVE Sushi.

There are two Argentina based steak houses. The steak is simular to South Texas but a little better.
Seafood places you will notice a great variation.
I hate Mexican food myself because they ¨fritada¨ fry all the food. So make sure to let them know not fried prior to ordering.
Sushi as chessy as it will sound the Super Walmart. They will make the rolls as you stand there and wait. You can make any combo you like. The best Japanese sushi made by Mexicans.

Climb the pyramid at Chichen Itza.
Its insanely steep, and once your at the top there are no fences or anything. It would never be allowed in the states.

how much does a trip like this cost?

It must have been a while since you have been there. You are not allowed to climb for about the last 4 years. To many stupid, fat, old Americans fell and tried to sue them. They finally just roped it off so you can not climb it. Last time I was there was about 6 months ago.
The best place I have found to stay if you want location, location, location is the Dreams.

If you want to do cheap make sure you do all inclusive. All your food and drinks are pre paid and MUCH cheaper than if you plan on going out ever day; IF you drink/eat much. Lots of places to choose from who do all inclusive. Review each hotel and the restaurants. Bars/drinks are all about the same.
If you plan on being out and about most ever day then look for location (the dreams) and price but NOT all inclusive.
Another really good area about 45 minutes from Cancun that I would like to stay due to the night life and a little more mature crowd (but I really like the drunk college girls of Cancun) is at Playa del Carmen
Here is a hotel Map. Dreams is on the very TIP of the map in the area with all the clubs, stores, restaurants (Hooters) in walking distance.

That sucks. I was there about 5 years ago. I'm glad I climbed it well I climbed it well I could, it was a good experience. I also went on a snorkeling trip that was fun. It was a 3 hour ride on a huge sail boat to the spot. We snorkeled for a while and then got drunk on the ride back. I think my favorite thing we did was go fishing. We were reeling in fish back to back all day and you never knew what you were gonna catch.

Yup, I got to climb it several years ago also Yeah I have done the snorkling trips also on the big catamaran. I have also dove off of Cozemel. Cool clifs.
Dont forget to do a cave tour (http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/...n/5466348.html)
and to visit one of the Cenote.

FG - not sure if it's too late or whatever, but the wife and I just came back from a resort JUST outside of Cancun. It was the best resort i've ever been to, hands down! Excellence Riviera cancun - look it up. Adults Only, all inclusive (but not even close to cheesy) - too much to list but if you want more details PM me - I can show you pics and everything.

The Marriot Casa Magna in Cancun is also a good spot to stay. If you like comfortable and soft bed then you'll like it there. The location is perfect because it's only few minutes away from that nice mall where you can take the mrs. for some shopping and dining plenty to choose from. The night life is only 5 - 10 minutes away by bus. Oh yeah don't be afraid to take the bus it's not that bad at all. Last time I was there (2 yrs ago) the bus fare only cost like 50 pesos. But if you want to take a cab that is fine too but they charge a lot like $25-$50 yes I said dollars.
As far as activities there are plenty just visit the reps who usually have a table set-up in the hotel lobby. Saving tips - bargain with them. Here are some of the activities I did:
Xel-Ha a huge resort with a man-made lake where you can snorkel
or ride a tube and slowly paddle yourself for hours. Now if you're not afraid of snorkeling with school of barracudas then make sure you and the wifey swim as close as possible by the bridge. Also don't forget to dive-off a cliff.
Chichen Itza is pretty much a Mayan ruins very interesting spot hopefully you get a good guide who can tell you about their interesting cultures and way of life. My only complaints are the heat and the long 2hrs drive each directions.
Isle Mujeres an island 2hrs away from Cancun where you can enjoy a day at the beach or you can rent a jetski for $50 for 30mins, local shopping, atvs around the island, or bike. And I think there's a shark farm on that island also. Cool spot but the food is not good.
Speed boat Jungle Tour is pretty much a guided tour where you drive you own speed boat and then snorkel in the middle of the ocean. Fun tip: drive your speed boat at full speed whenever you can. Enjoy!

Are you talking about the little 2 person speed boats? hahahaha Come one, those things are more funny than fun. My jet ski is 3x as fast if not 4x and it suck, you still have to basically follow single file with a bunch of OLD people who are afraid to go over 20 mph in choppy water.
