Is that really you? - Misleading avatars...
I know alot of guys like to use a pic of their favoute pro as their avatar but when guys use a pic of someone else and crop the head out of the picture is this for any other reason other than to mislead other members into thinking that it is a picture of themselves?

Or the fact that we don't want to be recognized. I am what is in my avatar. I am not proud of my body. I use my avatar as motivation. It makes me want to look better

I have no problem showing myself or my face personally. No point in miss-representing myself, wheres the fun in that?

Ha ha - that's been my avatar for so long I just don't wanna change it.
Yours is a case in point mate - by cropping the face out it makes it look as though it is a pic of you and you are trying to hide your identity - other members may then decide to follow advice you give under the misapprehension that it is you in you avatar.

Im sure people have all kinds of unique reasons for choosing their avatars. Some could be to mislead other members, not much can be done about it.
I don't think it's that hard to spot the bullshitters (ferocious bubblebutt).

does anybody remember GauchB who was using Derrick Poundstone's pictures and claiming it was him for months before he finally ran off..
though i think he came right back under a new name and new fake pictures.

This is actually much more interesting now that I'm gonna chime in.
With lovbyts specifically, I have asked myself at least a dozen times on random nights "is that really what lovbyts looks like" (cause the head is cropped). And then I say "no way it looks more like a modeling pic.. prob just some guy he wants to look like".
So I DO have that logic, to understand why people do. I'm not sure why lovbyts cropped the face, but I think he just did it out of respect for the actual person he got the pic from.
Maybe that person doesn't want their face plastered all over a steroid forum by some random member.
So either way, Notsmalls perspective or Lovbyts, I can understand both.
I *USE* to post pictures of other guys as my avy back in the day too, more as motivation, but I found out it was actually never motivating. Cause if I was looking at the picture it meant I was on my computer, and if I was on my computer, I was def NOT at the gym.
I couldn't possibly ever see myself loggin in, seeing my avatar, then thinking "fvck this I'm going to lift", just to be real here. I mean if I'm loggin in I'm doing some serious whoring most likely, so I stopped that whole posting trend of posting other men... and even women for that matter.
I like more artistic avies now that make you think or have a witty way of saying something. But a picture of some random hot female model or a guy someone wants to look like is just really boring imo. Everyone wants to look like Brad Pitt from fight club (+40lbs) and Angelina Jolie, so might as well drop it and try getting some more original avies.
But thats just my opinion lol.
What I do know is some people really just need to change theirs, notsmall, dsm, and other members whos avatars originate from the stoneage for example. But then again if dsm or notsmall ever changed their avies how the fvck would I ever identify them? ... oh wait... we have handles too haha.

I would like to say, as a random member of this website that I have observed the following...
There are two groups- Dudes who know what they're talking about because they know this stuff, and the dudes who could quickly be identified as 'that guy' at the gym.
The guys who have 5,000+ post spend enough time at a website called 'steroid .com' that it's safe to assume that they have a real interest in the world of aas and bodybuilding.
The real avatars are pretty easy to distinguise. Example being, 'Marcus' is a big dude who spends some serious time in the gym (with links and all that promo banner stuff). You can tell it's a real pic with the face omitted by paintshop. There are many other avatars that might be displayed to intimidate, fantasize, second-guess, represent an allegory, or provide some inner meaning that can only be understood with time on this forum. Example, DSM- he likes guys and the car, got it. No disrespect DSM, ur a very interesting and intelligent guy.
I have been reading lots of post from guys giving out advice like their doctors or experienced professionals, and they sound like assholes. That shit is dangerous and looks stupid too. If u really want to verify the knowledge of a member, u can look up all of his threads and posts and get an idea of how well he knows his shit. Example, Swifto must be a biochemist doctor who creates new formulas to counteract outdated formulas for fun.
I thought this was an opportune thread to speak out on some of the interesting personalities and pictures on this site. There are some real smart people sharing information that really helps, and then there are the others. Regardless, the avatars represent whatever a member who spends enough time here wants to convey. I think most can agree that appearance is always an important factor on perspective, but dig a little and you can usually find out what's behind the picture.
