    tattoo consultation today

i went in the nyc today to meet this tattoo artist who works in the lower east side. i wanted to talk to the guy about getting a polynesian half sleeve tattoo. kind of like The Rock's. the artist said that on my arm it would take three or four 3.5 hour sessions at $180 an hour. so no more then 15 hours. this would cost me more then 2500 bucks. i didnt realize it was gonna be that much money. do you most people spread out their sessions over the course of a year or longer. this place has some of the best tattoo artists in the city and i know it's a lil pricey but i want the best since im gonna have to live with it. anyone have any opinions or comments on what i should do?

Now that's funny. I was searching random tattoos the other day and saw this, and thought it was one of the best tattoos I'd ever seen. It made me wonder how a similar tattoo would look...skin ripping away while revealing a terminator like robot arm underneath it (obviously the tattoo would go on the arm instead.)

p.s. Did you see the other pieces? If I recall correctly, he had other body parts also ripping away to reveal spiderman underneath.

are you talking about a true polynesian tatt (with the original method) or just a normal gun?

i didnt ask the artist but i was assuming it was with a gun. i got pretty big delts and arms. i think it would take about 3 or 4 sessions even with a gun

i wouldn't think a half sleeve would take that long unless it is amazingly intricate. full sleeving an arm takes on average around 20 hours and costs around 2k at most shops around here in so cal. 2500 for a half sleeve seems a bit excessive. but then again everything in ny is expensive i hear. premier artists charge top dollar, you can find up and comers that do awesome work and wont ream you for it.

if you go to quality artist expect to pay around the 180 hour.

Thats how much I paid, done 23 hours and I have 40 hours to go lol.

My tattoo artist spreads them in 3 hour session, every 14 days.
