A lot of Hollywood actors endorse products in Asia. (Big $$.. a 30 second commercial can land an actor upwards of $2 million USD.)

The commercials dont get screened in North America and few people know about these promos. (And I am sure that makes Arnie glad

The ones for the V drink on the other hand are just freaky! Check out the rest of the site, other well known actors also do ads for that V drink... Steven Seagal has a few (which is interesting as he is fluent in japanese).

Terinox, it's not a quality issue... it's a money issue. These spots are around 30 seconds long, a commercial of that length (depending on how broad it was in terms of sets, etc), would take a few hours to a full day to shoot (4-8 hours) on average. For that day the big name hollywood actor (in this case Schwarzenegger) pockets around $2 million. I don't know about you guys, but there is LITTLE I wouldn't do in a full day for $2 million USD.

Contrast that to what he makes shooting a full feature film: His salary for Terminator 2 was $15 mill. These Japanese promos were shot at around the same time (early 90's). Terminator 2 took around 65 days to film, which averages to around $230,700 and change a day for Schwarzenegger. Not to mention the working conditions and wild shooting schedules of a full length movie, as opposed to a several hour commercial shoot where you just basically sit around while they get different angles, adjust lighting, and what not.

So, basically, Arnold is making nearly 9x as much money in one day in Japan as he would in Hollywood, with not nearly as much work. It's a no brainer... no matter how cheesy the material is.
