Awesome, back in the drivers seat
So its been a while since I was on track. Took all of the 2009 season and until now most of the 2010 off due to a busy schedule and a hectic life. Anyways, today I got invited to a private track session @ Stratotech Raceway next monday (sept 13th) to instruct a group of drivers on basic skills in high performance vehicles in a track based setting.
So far, the list of vehicles I will be giving ride-alongs with will be:
2008 Lambourghini Murcielago LP640
2009 Ferrari F430
2005 Ferrari F350
2009 Audi R8
2009 GTR
2009 Ariel Atom
2009 Evo X (modified, my lap car...360hp)
2009 Evo X (heavily modded... 470hp)
2010 Corvette ZR1
2000 Mustang Cobra R
Hopefully I do not crash any of these cars... really dont want to have to sell my house(s) to pay for one.
I'll take pics and post them right after the event...

Nice, that would be a fun gig but you need one of those cars yourself so you can practice...

my bad damien, you know I meant 360 but thanx for the catch. It was 2am when I wrote that and Im still trying to get use to the tiny keys on this new Mac computer.
Ive already driven most of these cars in the past aside from the R8 and F430.
2 Years ago we had a similar track session and I had the car owners follow me around the track in their cars while I played keep away in my 1995 Civic. Its a fully prepped race chassis I built at my shop but the engine was just a stock 1.6L out of a 98 Si. I like the looks on their faces when the $200G they dropped on their car doesnt make them a better driver. But most are willing to accept that and learn, which is nice.

Ya I was being an arse but it was funny
Nice, yep it don't matter what car you have if you can't drive it you may aswell go home. Over here we have a one make race series called Fiat Punto abarth's and there only 170bhp but about 850kg and when driven right will be faster than pretty much everything you have listed above in the right hands it's mad to think.

yah, I always try to get across the fact that a lightweight car almost always trumps in a heavily cornered race. The 3 main factors to racing are acceleration, braking and handling and reducing weight is the only thing that affects all 3.
If money is available next spring, Im putting my ass into a Lotus Exige and stuffing some overly wide R compounds on... NEXT!!!

With all these cars you get to play with what do you think of how the 3000GT VR4 AWD, AWS compares in handling? I know it's not an exotic or a super sports car but for us budgeted normal people I think it handles like nothing I have driven before even my friends Viper or my sisters 2001 Corvette.
Mine is not stock, 400hp at the wheels and runs like stock/smooth. Good overall performance, exceptional handling (IMHO) but yes a heavy car weighing in at almost 4K and the weak link is the transfer case so it's not a daily racer.

Honestly, Ive never put one through its paces. Ive actually neer driven a US model, only the japanese GTO (right hand drive)... I did notice the weight right away but it seemed to hold its own pretty well. Typically had to slow down a little more to corner hard but it also seemed to pull out of a corner very well so you could get onto the throttle much earlier, I suspect it was the AWD system. Gearing could use some work though to help it on track. It has very long gears and each shift allows you to go much faster in that designated gear than most other cars so top speed is great but acceleration lacks from a standstill.

Thats a nice list....
I spoke to the owners.. I will be coming by with a vehicle transport trailer around 3:00 to deliver the cars back home safe and sound
If you guys could spend some time that day practicing quickly driving onto the trailer that would be awesome. I am on a really tight sceduale that afternoon.
