This was prob one of the more motivating stories I've read in a while and it just so happens a movie is coming out about it called "Machine Gun Preacher".
I personally think what this guy is doing/done is awesome and it really makes you think about the superficial lives the majority of us live in general. We all want the nicest house, nicest wife, nicest car, nicest family, nicest golf set.... sam childers however doesn't seem to give a shit about any of that.
My question is, is what he is doing pointless? And do you think his real goal is to find and kill Joseph Koney? This guy went from a drug addicted alcoholic marijuana smoking badass biker who was raised in North Dakota.... to moving halfway across the country to sudan to preach the bible and rescue sudanese children. He often sits at the front line of the war in a bush with his ak47. And his childrens rescue center is the only place that doesnt up and leave when fighting breaks out.
I never realized the sort of life these kids live, and if you read about it its one of the most horrific things you can possible imagine.
Joseph Koney the leader of the LRA (Lords Resistance Army) had been abducting/murdering/raping children in sudan all in the name of the "good book".
"Registration" (or initiation) involves kidnapping a child, making that child murder a family member, then adopting that child into the LRA so they become mindless murders, kidnapping MORE children and essentially doing the same thing over and over again. Its common for a child to be made to kill their entire family, as well as weaker children who are already members of the LRA but too tired to walk any further. If they don't, then they are killed themselves. We're talking about 9, 10 and 11 year old children here, sometimes younger sometims older.
Boys are spared the concubines (sp) while little girls are made into sex slaves and GIVEN to men 2-3 times their age. These girls are essentially raped their entire lives, and forced to give birth in order to boost the population of the LRA. Its a dirty yet somewhat common strategy of war.
But if you read some stories about what some of these kids have gone through... these kids have gone through more in 1 day then I have in my entire life.
Joseph Koney claims to be "possessed" by multiple spirits, including the devil, he's a horrific fvcking man and looking at the faces of the children in this pic almost makes me choke up and cry:
And this is Sam who has so far rescued around 1000 children in sudan.
The sad part is however that he hasn't even really put a dent in this situation yet. The LRA has displaced millions of residents from their homes, orphaned thousands upon thousand of children, and what makes me sick is that noone has done anything about this yet.
My question to the forum is WHY do you think nothing has been done yet? It looks easy enough to meet this pos for interviews (if you go on youtube) yet noone has even tried killing him yet? WTF?
Is the idea that the sudanese government is even worse than the LRA? They say they tried to pass the death penalty for homosexuality, so you can tell the goverment is fvcked in general, but is that reason enough for us to ignore the problem? Can the US not do anything about this?
I know technically we have the manpower and technology to stop this war in 1 week, but would it not do anything?
I've just been reading about this story for a few days now, and can't seem to wrap my head around how in 2010, we still allow shit like this to go down in the world. I know this planet is not perfect, and has its share of problems, but seriously.... just find the fvcking guy and shoot him. Hes wreaking mass genocide and we know how to find him, hes not like bin laden... so what gives?
Can someone with a higher political understanding explain this to me? Thanks.
