When I was your age, I was 280lbs at 6% bf
It seems like every older guy that I meet, who still trains, is a "has been" and has these assine stories/statisitics/lifts about what they looked like when they were younger. I'm sure some of them were impressive, but not every single older guy that I meet in the gym.
I joined a new gym today. I grabbed the 150 DBs for flat and was about to rep them out, an older guy walks over, compliments me, and then says "Oh man, when I was your age, I was doing the 160lb DBs for 10 reps...."
Then another guy about 20 minutes later asks me how much I weighed, I told him 255lbs, he responds with "That's good size right there, but when I was your age, I was 275lbs..."
Like WTF, they ALWAYS have to try and top me off. I just respect/amuse them and respond with "wowww thats crazy, you must have been huge."
I'm going to start calling these fvckers out though.

When I was your age, I was calling out people that didn't even need to be called out... Man, good times, good times....
Seriously, your post is why I wear earplugs.

When I was your age we were REAL bodybuilders. None of the fancy drugs or PCT, or ritzy gyms that you guys have now. And pull up your pants!
Just kidding. I use my earphones as an excuse to ignore anyone at the gym that is asking anything other than "are you using that" or "can I work in".

I know EXACTLY what youre saying! I have guys telling me they were 250, 275, benching 450, 500, ect, ect and all I say is, "No you werent" and laugh. I can look at the way they train and I can tell they NEVER were big or pushed any real weight.
Theres a guy in my gym that walks around telling everyone hes 6% and 225. I laugh. Id put him at 15%!!!!!! And MAYBE 210!!! LOLOL!! He grabs the 150 lbs DB and moves them 3" and thinks thats a rep.

Whats with this fvcken 6% thing? Its like that the only number these guys know... Ive hears this exact thing 3 times in the last month or so. One comment was a friends husband who's an officer, think he was a little intimidated and had to bring up how he use to bodybuild and sat at around 210 and 6% (5'8) up until a couple years ago... oh really?

When I was your age we didn't have any fancy PCT. We used Test for our PCT.
And we also didn't have any of those sissy 23g pins. We used 18g harpoons.

18g for what? All they did was dbol , 200mg ED, broken up with 3 square meals

Its not just older ppl that do this but people that are fat, out of shape, nerdy, jealous etc. They all say that they were once lean, built, muscular, but then "something happened".
I had a classmate who was overweight, couldn't do a single push up, was beaten on the arm wrestle by any dude, and just plain Anti-Atheltic. He, like my close friend, tells me how he once had a perfect physique and shit but "something happened"... and he magically lost all 180 pounds of pure muscle, and stopped working out. I mean dude just be who you are and stop justifying yourself for being out of shape and hit the gym.

see, this is why I hesitate talking to young pups like you. Here's my problem. I tell a lot of stories, not just about working out. Mostly they are true. But I've told stories before, and sure enough, some young wet pup says something behind my back as I'm walking away. I was telling stories out in a garage party with some young kids (young = 20ish), and I tell this one story where I clean jerked a barbell with a hundred ish pounds on it, one handed. (It's not so much the weight, it's the wrist strength stabilizing the dam barbell!!) I can't remember exactly how much it was, but my point was, these kids start laughing and taunting me telling me I['m full of sh1t. My son is there, and he says "dudes, it's true. I was right there when he did it." That kinda shuts them up, but my point is, us older bulls have usually lived a rich full life and a by-product of that is we have stories to tell.
So maybe when you young wet pups grow up you can have some of your own stories to tell, just try not to make up too much of it! =)

Storytelling is for senior citizens. They start reading from the book of life usually when they are nearing death.

I can respect that, no problem. I think what he and me are reffering to is the guys who CLEARLY never worked out (seriously at least) coming up with these crazy outlandish numbers that VERY few percentage of people meet... like 275lbs and 6%. I get sh!t like that all the time and seeing how they train, no muscle, nada, its comeplete bullsh!t.

I believe this the inspiration for this thread stemmed from a phone convo me and ****** had about a week ago... Lol..... I think its pretty clear who the old timers in the gym are that were in shape "back in the day" and the ones who werent.... There are some older guys at my gym that can put most younger guys to shame, of course, they are the exception and rarely the rule. But I give any old foggie an A for effort for even being in the gym at their age, lol...

It's funny. I still feel young, although the grey in the mirror seems to be going more silver as time goes on. But it's funny. Age is a comparative concept, and I don't classify myself as old. Conversely, I refer to all you 20ish types out there as kids. I tell you what though. If I were single, I'd be getting more pvssy now as a silva back than I did as a kid. It's all about body language, your outlook on life, and how secure you are. I hate to say this, but some chics really did us middle aged guys that are very secure in their careers, and can drop a few hundred dollars on an evening without it being a big deal. To be serious, I don't think I'd trade places being 25 again. I've paid my dues in life and in my career, and now I get to enjoy all the benefits!

This thread is funny because every young guy that walks upp to me at a gym or powerlifting meet or strongman comp, when they find out I'm an ex pro football player always says he ran 4.2 in the 40 but his coach didn't like him so he never played. Hahahahahahahaha!

You hit the nail on the head. Most of the guys telling me these bogus numbers are the ones who bench 315 twice (1/3 of the way down), try to curl 135lbs, but it ends up being a standing deadlift because there is more back invovled than biceps, with that being said, they LOVE flaunting that they were "all natural" when they were 6% bf at 275.

I am closer to 50 years old than I am to 40 and in the best shape of my life. Drives me nuts when I hear guys use age as an excuse.
