Planet fitness, the "judgement free zone"
If you haven't heard, planet fitness is generally aimed towards out of shape people and basically pussies with zero muscle tone. I could have really cared less to be honest with you, I go to a much bigger and better gym right down the street from me. But I turn on the radio today and there is a planet fitness advertisement.
"If you drink creatine, this is not your gym
If you constantly refer as steroids to breakfast, this is not your gym"
They basically bash any and all bodybuilders and serious gym rats, yet the try to call themselves the judgement free zone bullshit.

And

Normally I wouldn't care, but it got me thinking, this could very well explode into a stereotype that all bodybuilders or powerlifters are ignorant dicks. Its really the opposite IMO. Most adult BBs are nice, generous people.
Anyway, I just had to vent.
Cheers.Last edited by CMB; 01-05-2011 at 08:59 PM. Reason: typo

We should all get together and bring a mob to planet fitnesses. Kick in the doors and grab the first people we see. Then proceed to ask how there day was and if we could help them with any chores around the house.
I could see hgtv picking us up for a reality show. We'll call it "meet the meatheads"

Now that is funny stuff stack it. But in all seriousness Planet Fitness is doing well. There are 3 of them in my area alone and they are always packed.

lol. One of my favorite gyms! my wife also. We used to be members there in Michigan. Im not a fan of slamming or dropping weights so its no big deal to me. I believe we should be able to handle what we pick up.

I goto a planet shitness for cardio sometimes since it's only $10/month but these commercials and ads are really starting to piss me off. Not only do they judge bodybuilders...... they have built a campaign to keep them outa their gyms. It's bullshit..... I wanna file a cass action lawsuit against planet fitness LOL..... discrimination. Hardcore gyms don't tell fat women they can't join..... those fat women just feel uncomfortable reading their books while using the pedal bikes while i've got my heartbeat up to 150-160 on an elliptical stair stepper thing.....

i dont like their new commercials either...the bam bam pow pow was funny but if a big bodybuilder wants to go in an warm up with their pus$y ass db's they shouldnt be thought of negatively....gym sucks and isnt worth 10 dollars a month btw...its definately for that reason only where money is SUPER tight

Bodybuilders will always be viewed as idiots. But to see them (us?) made fun of, and excluded, by someone professesing to be judgement-free is insulting. People pretending to be accepting, while excluding anyone they disagree with are infuriating.

dont understand why they are limiting their market?
if they want to appease the meek they could divide the gym up 2 suit, but turning away potiential busines is just stupid

I have a membership..its one of 3 gyms i belong 2. For convenience and cardio when im near that gym (cause its $10/month). While they are doing well..the model they are built on ..low dues - volume membership - moderate/low/no amenities sounds good...but in reality it only has a life expectancy of 5-7 years. Its projected after that time..they will end up closing.
Oh and their new ad campaign def crosses a line...it preys on a stereotype ....but in all reality..you and i ..really arent their market or demographic. Are you gonna work out or train where dumbells go to 65lbs???
Lets be honest - some people are intimidated..a guy benchs 300lbs and they struggle to remove the 45's off the bar. Seriously that mindest prevents people from joining gyms...they are saying it doesnt exist here. If it get more people working out im all for it. Then When Planet Fitness closes the members can join real gyms.

It would be awesome to get a few guys together for a workout there. Bring plenty of chalk, wear the smallest tank top you own lol. It would be a blast for about 15 minutes.

I will admit that I understand their thinking. My wife goes to the gym with me. She is a little over 5' and probably weighs 105 - 110. She is very intimidated at the gym and would never go if she wasn't with me. She doesn't want to look stupid, or feel like she is the only one there that just wants to be pretty (she still doesn't understand that is all I want from going to the gym too, although I don't use that word) rather than trying to look like an action figure. She will NEVER ask a 240 pound bodybuilder if he is done with that bench, or if she can work in on a machine. Ever, ever, ever. Even though we like to believe the big buy will be polite, it isn't guaranteed as she will be seen as an inexperienced, tiny girl that can ruin a workout by interfering.
In short, the fewer big guys at the gym there are, the happier she is.

Planet Fitness is so ghetto. I know its cheap but they attract all the white trash that work out in jeans and work boots. Not to mention they are always packed and never keep up on maintenance or cleaning. I think 10 bucks a month is still a rip off for what you get.

I could care less about PF, I will never step into one. What pisses me off is the false stereotype they are provoking that all BB's and gym rats are ignorant idiots.

Planet Fitness is for PUSSIES. I have people in my gym that SHOULD go their.....the lazy ass people looking around, talking, playing with their I-Pod etc when they are supposedly working out. I sweat more in the first 5 minutes of my workout then their entire workout all WEEK!

Have to say that ad was funny. We have gyms like this in Ireland too but there shit and therefore don't bother with em. But they are cheap and at least have some hot women to look at compared to the gym I am currently in.

Hopefully, the campain has a second phase that explains who Planet Fitness IS for. They will need to compete on benefits as making fun of people is good for awareness, but not producing direct sales.

Wow, purple and yellow for that one! Just missing the Dinosaur... Anyways, I can't stand looking around the gym I'm at and seeing all the talentless and wussy people around. I would love to belong to a gym where people with talent join, but they are always few and far between. I just really can't stand ad's like these. I mean I can cope, but America just keeps swirling this poor information around. Eh, it's just a lame gym.

Our Gold's membership expires this month so we went to check out PF. For the money it was a no brainer. $19.99 a month plus free haircuts and tanning. Can bring a guest everyday so this covers my 15 year old. And the first Monday of every month is free pizza. I won't eat it but the rest of the family will and thats one less dinner I need to pay for. So yeah we joined.
