Fishing for food in the UK

    Ok guys

Does anyone here know where in the UK is the best place to go fishing for some decent fish that I can eat

IDK anything about fishing but my m8 is a trout fisher (i know it will probably be completly different) and has all the gear

I told him i wud pay for the fuel, we will go sumwhere for a weekend with a big ice box and try and catch as much fish as possible, i can then freeze the fish and eat it on demand

I know people will say scotland, i live in birmingham so is there a coast that is closer?

What about salmon? Dont u get salmon in rivers

Like i said i have no idea. Need some help to get some fresh free protein

Fish is so god dam expensive

Sainsburys, Tescos or Asda are my picks...
Do not ask me for a source check.

A couple of guys at work go to the Trent river in Nottingham. Supposed to be good trout there but I think you have to be a member or something, not sure if you can keep them either, not sure I'd want to eat them either... Well not after what they feed them.

I dont really fancey eating trout

I was thinking more of sea fish like mackrel and cod

    Or stuff like salmon

When i was young we whent to wales and i saw a guy pulling out 5-6 mackrel fish at a time on this line with about 10 hooks

He was literally throwing the line out and then reeling it back in. The turn over of fish was crazey. He pics the best ones and threw the others back

I supose you need to be in the rite place at the rite time to catch a load

for salmon and trout fishing you need a licence and pay expensive fees, they are game fish.eels are in abundance in most british fresh waters. decent cod fishing means going out on a boat, mackerel are usually in abundance further out to sea, so again you needa boat. decent pollack can be had off the rocks but only really in warmer months. beach casting will catch mainly flounders with occasional bass if lucky. all fresh water fishing requires licence/land owner permission and the sea is free

Sad that you have to pay to fish. But in effect we do too. Over here we need a license to fish at least in missouri. Otherwise if the game warden catches you they will confiscate your fish and equipment and give you a summons to appear in court. And if you fail to appear you end up in jail with Bubba. An entirely different type of fishing with trouser trout. Not a good way to end an innocent day of honest fishing. I just go to the local market and buy the fish.

Nice one, the sea is obviously the best bet. Its just where to go that isnt too far and where I can be sure to bring home a load of fish
