Yeah and this is another pet peeve of mine. When you hold the door for some people and they respond with "iight yo good looks", is it that fvcking difficult to muster up the courage to say "Thank you" or "thanks man."?

be glad you dont live here in chicago would drive you batty. Its their world we just live in it. I usually tell them you are welcome if they dont say anything or mention something all depends on how many times it has happened in a day.

The characteristic of a good deed is one done absent of expectation. The irony is the benfit from a deed done in this manner would far outweigh any thank you you might immediately receive.
I hear you ..i do ...and yeah..its rude...but so what? Are you gonna be rude as well and stop doing it ?

Worse is when a group goes thru as you stand there holding the door for each and everyone of them.... ALL of them go thru... and not a single one of them turns around and says thanks!

Common courtesy isn't very common. Glad you have it, but we can't expect if from others. I always hold the door if someone is within reaching distance, and I always say "thank you" when someone does anything polite for me. I like to think my parents raised me correctly.

Johnny as do I and its extremely appalling that people today have little to none common courtesy for their fellow man. If people were just a little nicer it would have an impact on everyone's quality of life.

I always hold the door if I have the oppurtunity because I am polite. Living in civilized New Hampshire I hardly get the occasional dick who will ot say thanks. However, if you go to Boston and do this you might as well be a door matt for rudeness.

Everyone normally tells me thanks. Even the "hardcore thugs" will give me a "thanks dog."

I only do it for people within arm's reach now. Otherwise they feel rushed (if they are polite), and others seem obviously bothered, probably because they didn't ask for a big imposition and it gets weird.

I just expect to not hear a thank you... I do it more for myself now just as kind of a "pay it forward"

I find the opposite end of this amazing though, when people are suprised when you hold a door, which is why I posted this thread a while back...
