I eat a fair bit to snack on here in the UK, but it can have a high salt content.

The shit in packets is just that... shit.

    Get it from the butcher.

^^Yeah there is a lot of salt in it.. but a little here and there isn't going to kill you.. the sodium can definitely be an issue for those with lower BF%'s trying to keep that "tight" look

I love the stuff, but ya theres allot of sodium. Pretty expensive option for a snack, but it beats potato chips and cheese puffs. When I eat it at work I must look like a dog chewing on a dried pig ear. That my friend, is disturbing to all senses.

This will sound strange: I make sure I eat one of anything I feed my dogs. I work in marketing/branding and I am always fascinated by the difference between how they appeal to us to buy a product, and what it actually tastes like so the dogs like it. Ever had doggy ice cream? It doesn't taste like ice cream! Now that you know why I would do this...

I have eaten a few pieces of the jerky we give our dogs and it is frickin' awesome! The dogs don't need all the salt and flavoring because they just like meat. So, it is very natural and simple. I would eat it all the time if my pride didn't get in the way of me eating dog food. I am trying to find something like that for humans. seems like the perfect snack.

just take it out of the packaging and don't tell anyone.. i read a statistic once that something like 30% of cat food is eaten by elderly people because they can barely affrod real food and it is much cheaper?? this was 8 years ago, but i swear to god there was a statistic out there that said something like that.

my uncle used to go hunting in alaska or colorado or whatever and always got like moose meat or venison and the jerky from that was AWESOME as well.. i think home made has less salt, as my mom uses soy sauce, liquid smoke, molases, pepper and a few other things.. so i suppose some salt from the soy sauce but there is not ALOT of soy sauce in the recipe.. you could get away with using no salt at all if you wanted to as drying it out alone is enough to keep it

yeah.. its only like $30 a pound.. free delivery.. and from making jerky i can tell you that it takes two pounds of meat to make one pound of jerky.. so.. that is like getting meat at $15 a pound.. which is NOT THAT BAD.. when you think about it.. that is like 11 euros a pound, which is close to what I pay for high end meat.

Sams club has the Slim-Jims and beef jerky in bulk packages.

Slim Jims are somewhat spicy and they burn on the way out if you eat too many but they're high in protein.

I always make my own. Pick up a food dehydrator. You can find NEW ones at the goodwill for $5-$10 with 6 racks. It takes all of 12 hrs sitting in the garage and it's done. I usually marinate it for 24-48 hrs first with whatever I have available.

I just buy already sliced or have a roast sliced up and its about 1/5 the price of in the stores or less.

This. That shit is loaded with nitrates which are proven, potent carcinogens. If you make your own you can avoid these, plus the taste is far superior. IMO of you want to eat a lot of this, keep having your mom send you some or make your own.

But the meat for beef jerky is not great quality meat as far as expensive

It has to be super lean

I could get beef for 1.99 a lb and make jerky for cheap
