What would you do if you found a wallet?

I just found a wallet, and being the poor guy that I am, I could really use the $100 inside. What would you do?

Honestly years ago in my youth I would have said finders keepers,but my morals have changed and I would have to return the wallet and money.I wouldn't be able to sleep at night not knowing if it was that persons last $100 to his name and had bills and children to feed with it.

when i was a kid we were pretty poor. my parents had scraped together some money to buy some heating oil. somehow my father lost his wallet and we were gonna be in trouble with no oil. two days later a man(he looked as poor as us) returned it and only asked for gas money to get home. he was broke too. i would definitely return it because you never know who's at the other end.

If I found a wallet and it had information on the person in it I would try everything to get it back to them........... You have to look at this way Symian, he could be in the same situation as you maybe having his electric turned off in a week, has a few kids to feed, or whatever............. If the shoe was on the other foot and you made a mistake and dropped your wallet you would hope that someone would get it back to you.

It happened to me once... found a wallet with some cash and no credit cards, address on drivers license indicating the gentleman lived in one of the slumby area of town.

I returned it intact to his appartment and refused when the guys wife (he was away at work) tried to give me the cash (which is somewhat embarassing). His family needed the money a LOT more than I did.

It it happened again I'd do the same, and I sincerely hope someone finding my wallet would do the same.

I'd return it...bad karma (sp?) if you don't. I truly (hopeless optimistic) believe that good things happen to good people. The better person that I am the better life will be in return. Wouldn't want a reward for doing good either...rich or poor. That's just who I am.

My father is a moron he lost his wallet with about 7 plastics, 2 bank cards 750$ in cash a like 3 blank signed checks, drivers license, green card, ss card, etc.. a kid returned it to him with all the original content he gave him 500$.. and here i am in my third week of college and im still missing 75% of my books :-\

I have come to realize everything you are comes down to choices like this one. You already know the right thing to do so the question is are you a person of quality or not. My life has become so much easier since I have become someone who does what I believe is right in every situation. Others may not always agree but I sleep well at night, never have to worry about getting caught in a lie, and know people think I am someone with integrity. The payoff for that is much higher than what you will get from the money inside that wallet.

yeh, i wish.......when i lost mine well actually i left it at a "friends" of another friends house by mistake..... .........they took all my money, all my id's (school id, licease, my friends licease and a few others), my moms charm i always kept with me after she died (they probably thought it was something real expensive....little do they know it was probably worth about 50 bucks.........it was just the sentimental value it had to me)........thats what bothered me the most.......... i got back all my credit cards and that stuff............but after reading this i still have good faith in people..........personally, i would give everything back........what goes around comes around...............

I actually found a few wallets in my 20 years on this planet. Each one had a drivers license in it so it was very easy to return it. One time the lady lived near me so I surprised her and delivered it. If I was to find a wallet with no ID or anything with his or her name on it I would probably keep it. If I gave it to someone it would probably never be returned anyhow..the chances are that will never happen so I will always return it.

I have never found a wallet before. Its a good question. I'd like to say I'd just return it, but . . . . I don't know what I'd do. The worst I would do is take the cash, and return the rest (credit cards, etc.). I certainly would not try to ruin someone's financial future buy racking up huge charges on their cards. I guess it depends on how I feel that day.

Definelty return it with everything in it. I had it happen to me. I lost my wallet and didn't even know it. Then I got a phone call. The person found a perscription in it with my # on it. Went to pick it up and had every dollar in there. I couldn't thank her more.

Character refers to the way a person acts when nobody is looking...you know you won't get caught...you have nothing to lose. You have to look in the mirror and be comfortable with your decisions ...day in and day out. If you chip away at your own personal moral fiber...a little at a time (like keeping the $$)..eventually, you end up without moral fiber and with low character. Don't sell out your ethics.

Personally I’d return it…cash in tow. I’m sure the owner of said wallet would be happy just to get back all the other items alone but seeing the cash as well says a lot about the person returning it.

Here’s an interesting story that happened to a close friend of mine. My buddy Noel (Yeah we teased him about that a lot. hahaha) had taken his son to the movies one night and upon returning home noticed his wallet was missing. It was a pay day so his entire paycheck was inside the wallet…….to the tune of $900. Needless to say he looked everywhere but knew he had left it at the movie theater. He looked up the number to the place and asked the manager if anyone had turned in a wallet. The manager stated that no one had but he would keep an eye out for it and for him to return and look around. Noel drove back and as soon as he walked in the door the manager held out the wallet and asked if this was the wallet he was looking for. Noel said it was and thanked him for finding it. Now, Noel was very pleased to have the wallet back because we all know what it’s like having to go through all the hassle of canceling credit cards and such not to mention replacing a driver’s license. He opened the wallet knowing the cash won’t be there but to his total amazement the cash was still there…..every penny! He asked the Manager how he found it and he said he didn’t find it but that one of the ushers did when he was cleaning up the theater. Noel asked if he could call the kid up so he could thank him so the manager obliged. When the kid came up Noel told him thank you very much and peeled out $100 and gave it to him on the spot. The kid tried to refuse the cash and said he was just doing what he would want someone else to do for him if he was in Noel’s shoes. Noel asked if he looked inside before turning the wallet in and the kid said yes. Noel peeled off another $100 and told him the first $100 was for turning in the wallet, the second $100 was for being honest and said he knew there wasn’t a dime going to be in the wallet if it was returned so a couple of hundred less was still better than nothing.

I myself have no concious what so ever.. Ive found things before, like a beeper a wile ago, and got no reward for returning the thing.. So if I found a wallet, I would keep what I wanted inside..

But thats just me..
