Woke up to gunfire
woke up from an early sleep with security telling me to get in the safe room. there was a guy out in the street with a body bomb. then some gunfire, and a couple of the combatants were killed. one was karzai's cousin. police were going from house to house trying to find the guy, one of the houses was right next door.
anyways, they got the creep, and now I can go back to sleep
Goodnight!

Spoke too soon....
....about dozing off and woke up to gun battle again. Within a one block radius. Several AK-47's, a few emptied their 30 round clip. A little while later....
BOOM! NDS, the National Security Force was coming from complex to complex searching for these guys. the walls between the complex's are ten to fifteen feet high solid concrete. Instead of going around these walls, NDS just uses an explosive devise and blows holes in the walls, then comes on through. By this time, I'm outside. Things quiet down again. But if it happens again, and we get in the shit, I've got an AK with me this time.
Don't know how much sleep I'll be getting tonight.....

Here's the fukked up part....
....NDS is still chasing down these guys. evidently, there were 4 to begin with. three are dead. but right across the street, next to my office there is a family. This is where the gun fight is now at. This family has kids, three of em, and they are like 8 5 and 3. I hope nothing happens to those kids.
one of our guys gave an NDS guy some water, and we were able to get an update. evidently, when the gunfire first went off, people (civilians) were looking out the windows to see what was going on, and the jerks were firing up at the people looking out the windows.

Sounds like security can't protect you as much as it should. You might want to rethink about that money and whether it is all worth it. Of course if you decide to stay can I have your Harley?

And here it is in the news...........
http://tolonews.com/en/afghanistan/3...e-in-his-house
dont forget to watch the video at the bottom. the initial picture of the house on the video is right next door. I was taking pics of it this morning from our office balcony. I can send em to you if anyone is interested?
Anyways, here's the article....
Unknown gunmen stormed the house of a senior aide to President Karzai, Jan Mohammad, in Kabul killing him and an Afghan MP representing Oruzgan, police officials said.
The gunmen killed Jan Mohammad Mohammadi, a senior advisor to President Hamid Karzai and former governor of Oruzgan province, along with Mohammad Hashim Watanwal, Member of Parliament representing Oruzgan province.
The incident happened in Kabul's district 3 at around 08:00 pm local time.
Afghan security forces were immediately deployed to the area and clashes between the attackers and the Afghan security forces continued for four hours until the siege was ended.
Unconfirmed reports said three Afghan police soldiers were wounded in the incident, but the exact number of militants killed is unclear.
Police have captured one militant armed with an AK-47 and a grenade launcher.
Witnesses say the gunmen killed several of Mr Jan Mohammad's security guards before breaking into the house.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
Some of the similar recent attacks have also been claimed by the Taliban.
The attack comes as Nato has started security transition to Afghan forces amid concerns about the capabilities of the Afghan security forces.
The Taliban have recently shifted tactics by targeting Afghan officials and influential leaders.
Last week Ahmad Wali Karzai, the leader of Kandahar provinvial council and the half-brother of the Afghan President, was shot dead by his bodyguard and the Taliban claimed responsibility.
Following the assassination in Kandahar, the governor of Helmand province Gulab Mangal also survived an IED attack.
The Taliban continue their attacks as Afghan President Hamid Karzai still insists on making a peace deal with the group.

Damn you live in a ruff neighborhood , I'm kinda glad that I live safe place. Once I lost my keys and the next night I woke up to open front door and there was nobody in front of it, that kinda freaked me out. Next day somebody tried to open my door again ,
but I managed to change my door lock the day before. Atleast I haven't seen a gunfire , lucky me xDLast edited by PurpleOnes; 07-19-2011 at 08:17 AM.
