Asshole? Or am i over reacting?
Okay so today im in the gym and im using a bench and i just finish a set and go to rack the DB's about to go on to my next exercise using the same bench. There is a guy and his partner 2 benches down and the gym is just about empty. There swapping out doing sets of incline press. They have been there for about 10-15 working out just down from me so clearly they see me using the bench. So i go rack the weights and grab my next pair and turn around and the guy is changing my bench to incline press while on the phone. I look at him and say hey im not finished there (mind you theres another bench closer to where he was that does incline too). He does not say anything and goes to fix my bench to back to where it was. No my bad or sorry or anything, just looks at me and goes to drop it back down. It just ran all over me!! Not that he made any comments but it was like he had an attitude when he was into his next set. Hes a larger guy and he snags the 110 DB and begins to pump out some incline presses. I glance over there because im thinking thats a nice set but there was like an attitude in the air or something. I was thinking about saying something to him like do you have a problem but i thought i might be over reacting. Now mind you hes a good bit bigger then me. I dont know if he was just really into his set or like whats the little guy looking at. What do you think, anything like this happen before? Im the guy who is always really polite in the gym. Excuse me are u using this bench or dont wanna bother you but do you have several sets left? Maybe im the only one like this i dunno.

i think you are over reacting. I'm sure he wasnt trying to steal it from you and thought you were done. It put it back to your position where you had it. Whats the problem.

He proly so into his w/o with his buddy that he really didn't notice exactly what bench u was at or if u were done. He's got his own focus happening and in his zone. BTW no matter the size of the person, if I got something to say, I say it. If u throw out to him, is there a problem than it causes hostility. Approach is key. I often open my mouth before I take a sec to absorb the situation.

Lay a towel on your bench, and it won't be a problem in the future.

Sounds like overreacting.. If u woulda said you were using it and he purposely
ignored you and started using it, I'd be pissed... but if he put it back in position for you he probably just figured you were done,
and if he thought you said it with an attitude or aggressively, I could see why he didn't apologize.. Then I could understand the tension in the air too. Probably just miscommunication though

No worries. Things like this happen. If he was on the phone maybe he just didn't have full awareness of what's going on.

He may be like me, I can be real short sometimes in the gym. Not because I want to be mean to people but my aggression and intensity seem to be elivated? I can not stand when people ask me to work in with what im doing...Normally I say no unless it is a machine or cables. Nothing worse than someone Fu#king up your zone....Seems like its always the duche bags that ask to join in. But, this case I think he was probably just pre-occupied. Could have said sorry, I would have even done that

I think it's over reacting if you did anything but more than likely your first impression was correct and he was being an A hole and wanting to see if you would say or do anything. I could not imagine jumping on someone bench as soon as they get up. When I go into a room I ask if anyone is using the bench or machine I want to use even if it's obvious no one is just to be polite and make sure.
He was probably on a sust or sus cycle and just got finished pinning.
Why? Make it obvious you need something where they are standing by walking up to their face and say Excuse me! They will move, if not a little nudge goes a long way with an Excuse me!!Last edited by lovbyts; 07-31-2011 at 01:37 AM.
