x-box question~ online hook up to new wireless & teenager facing C.O.D withdrawls

got new wireless and my 16yearold is freaking out cuz his X-box wont work rite with his modern warfare/call of duty. (oh no, the world as we know it has ended ~sheesh, lol)

~has slow preformance, esp when joining a lobby..and cant comunicate with some people (static). he says his "nat" type is now moderate and used to be open, so he thnks thats making the difference.

we have been messing with it for a few days with zero results, the internet instalation guy was no help.

anyone know what Im talking about? and have directions?

lolol I know what he's talking about. My nat was on moderate when we switched to wireless but it has to be on open.

You have to setup a static IP on the xbox and setup the DMZ on your router so it matches the IP from the xbox. He's right it is because of the nat settings.

lol well what kind of router are you using? it is a wired connection from the router to XBOX or wireless?

You need to get into the router webpage (usually 192.168.0.1 from ur browser) and see what the IP address the xbox is using. you can also go into the xbox network settings to check that. Once you get that, you copy down the information then find the DMZ (demiliatized zone, aka puts the ip outside of any protection the router gives) settings then set the IP address the xbox was using to that IP address. Then go into the xbox network settings and set the IP address and subnet mask and the other stuff you copied down earlier to the same stuff but as a static IP address ( DHCP means the xbox just gets whatever is available from the router aka dynamic IP address, you want this to stop gettin a random IP address but use the same one over and over again aka static)

its a pain in the arse with some routers... but there is some website that shows how to open the nat. If you put it on a DMZ zone you dont have to open any ports on the router which is more work to do

He has to go on the xbox and setup the network settings manually.

Then you have to go to your router menu (open your internet browser usually you type in something like 192.168.X.XXX each brand is different.)

Navigate your way to the page for DMZ and enable it.

Tell your son to make the ip from the xbox the same one for the DMZ

save settings on the xbox and router. Shut everything down the modem, the router, the xbox, then restart it all.

Basically what is happening is the router is restricting information flow from the xbox and enabling "dmz" opens all ports to the specific device you are enabling it on.

Don't get overwhelmed by what me and Lemonada are saying it's very simple to do and it's kind of important lol

when i had trouble with my xbox live i called them and foubd the problem, it was i had a 1.5mbps and now im at 20mbps. they were friendly to help.
