I have an uncle who lives in Mexico with his wife and my 12 year old niece. My uncle met his wife years ago and for whatever reason, decided to move down there with her.
As you probably know, things in Mexico are TERRIBLE right now with this drug war. These rebels are kidnapping people, killing them, etc. It used to be mainly wealthy people being kidnapped for ransom; now they're so out of control, they're just doing it to anybody at will, wealthy or not.
So, my uncle and his wife made the decision to move to the States (thank GOD!). This was tough for his wife as her entire family is there, but they're doing it for their daughter, and because they're fearful for their lives at this point.
My niece was flown out to the states a few weeks ago and is safe. My uncle and the wife are literally making a run for the border; for reasons unclear to me, they have to drive, they can't fly. They plan to leave very early tomorrow morning as they feel that's their best chances of making it. Leading to my point...
A few weeks ago I had a very sobering conversation with my uncle regarding all of this. He told me about their plans to flee the country, and said that as crazy and extreme as it sounds, the chances of them being kidnapped and/or killed are VERY high. They can literally turn the corner and if there's a roadblock put up by cops (the police corruption there is ridiculous), that could be it. We had a long conversation and he literally asked me if I would adopt his daughter, that he knew it was a huge thing to ask, but at least if he had to die, he'd go knowing she'd be safe and taken care of. She's a great kid, LOVES me and my wife, and we love her. I talked it over with my wife, and although we're about to have a kid of our own, we of course said yes.
I'm just asking you all to say a quick prayer if you happen to think about it. With any luck, he'll be safely in the States sometime tomorrow. I'll update once I hear any news, good or bad.
Thanks guys!!!
