My Laptop is dead and I need to get it fixed but I have QUESTIONABLE material on it.
So, my laptop is dead and won't do anything so I need to bring it to get fixed. The problem is that there is questionable material on the computer that I'm really worried about. My wife will KILL me if anyone see some of this material. Does anyone know what I should do to get this things repaired? I know all guys have questionable material on their computers but when it's of their wifes or G/F's what should one do?
Thanks,
Pete

The other thing though is that I would think a reputable repair shop would have already seen EVERYTHING and if they were stealing files from your computer could be sued for theft and the company wouldn't be able to survive with this type of activity. I would do an online repair BUT the computer won't even boot up. Maybe it's just time to buy another Macbook. I hate PC's they suck!!!

If it bothers you that much then buy another hard drive and pull yours out and replace it with the new one, then attach the original one up to it as a second hard drive and copy back what you want to keep.

Throw it out and buy a new one... Depending on what is on it.. If its that questionable, leave it in salt water for a couple of weeks.. The salt water will destroy any and everything inside it.

To expand on Shol'va's suggestion:
You'll need to buy an external case for the hard drive so that you can use it as an external.
People, when you've got video and pics of you and your significant other rockin' the kinky porn-stylee, you really should move that stuff to DVD or special thumb drives and keep them locked away and safe until the next time you're lonely. DO NOT STORE ANYTHING ON YOUR COMPUTER THAT YOU'RE NOT WILLING TO LOSE COMPLETELY. Computers crash all the time.

Boy do they ever and get hacked when using a cheap antivirus program. And thanks for expanding on my hard drive fix. I accidentally left the external case procedure out. But it's a simple procedure if he is willing to put out the money which shouldn't be all that much. Should be under 100 bucks for everything needed including new hard drive. There are always sales somewhere both at brick and mortar stores as well as online stores.

Exactly. That is what I was going to post if no one else had. This is your best and cheapest option. Make sure you upgrade to a larger HD at the same time. Dont trust ANY repair person or shop not to look for porn or ??? pictures on your HD unless you are standing there watching over their shoulder the whole time.
You dont need an external case unless you are going to use the other HD full time, you can get a cable set up that is cheap/easy to hook up any time you want to use the HD.Last edited by lovbyts; 09-25-2011 at 12:47 AM.

If your computer is 5 years old or less than this is what you need the connection is SATA

If you have an older computer you need this because the connection is IDE
