PS3 + steering wheel christmas present for the Dad!

So I was talking to my sister on the phone today and we were just talking about Christmas time and I mentioned to her that I heard Dad was interested in getting a PS3, preferably one with a steering wheel and a game. So I said if I found a good deal on Amazon or eBay, i'd snap one up and she could give me the difference later on which she thought was a cool idea.

So for you racing car enthusiasts, anything you can recommend? While I play games myself, im not really into racing games. Apparantly the Logitech GT Steering wheel is supposed to be good, but I wouldn't know a good quality steering wheel from a bad one.

And what would be a good racing car game? Gran Turismo, or is there better racing games out there at the moment?

Dude...Gran Turismo 5 is the only racing game you need to talk about.

I have the Logitech Driving Force GT wheel. It's not too expensive and entry level, but still of good quality for the price and will satisfy the needs of anyone that isn't insanely obsessed with Gran Turismo 5.

Gran Turismo is awesome. Can't go wrong. There are some street racing games that have arcade physics (can be more fun). I liked Midnight Club Las Angeles.

A few other people i've spoke to have all said GT 5.

He only really wants a PS3 for Driving games and for the BluRay features it has.

He might find that he likes other kinds of games too. I am in my 40s and play tons of games. Getting ready to start Uncharted 3, and have been waiting for Skyrim to come out.

Well the PS3 is the best bluray player available, it even puts all the very high end players to shame. Gran Turismo 5 is the best driving/racing simulator available, and it's only on the PS3...so PS3 + GT5 + Logitech Driving Force GT wheel = awesome.

LOL, that actually makes me feel better. I'm 34 and a massive Mortal Kombat 9 fan and wonder if im too old to be playing games still! I used to be a big fan of Oblivion, and Skyrim is looking pretty cool. As for other kindsa games, it would mostly be things like racing games, bike games or plane simulators. Things like RPG's, Fighters, Platform games...not sure how much he'd enjoy those.

@NoMoto, cheers pal, I think you've got me sold. Over the next few weeks im gonna scope out Amazon, eBay and a few GameStores to see what I can find for him. I'ma bit excited to be getting him something like this with my sister. Each year she always gets him something like a shirt, and I get him a bunch of DVD's. He's very humble and couldn't care less what he gets, but I know he is keen to get one of these for him, so i'm quite stoked we'll be able to get him something pretty cool this year.
