    Laid off blues .

I was laid off in march from a job I loved. I actually spent 3 years working 60+ hours a week; sometimes going months w out a day off. Im 26yrs and only have 3 years of college and no degree.

Just need to post this so it doesnt build up and ruin the progress ive been making latley. Thanks.

What sort of work are you in mate? I'm sure a new door will open up sooner rather than later. Keep your chin up

I run after school programs. It just really sucks because getting the job in the first place was a long shot with out a degree in the area. My old boss told me that I had a choice of a great recommendation or an unemployment check. I was shocked; and he tried to contest my unemployment and will not give me a rec. Thankfully I won the unemployment benefits and im financially secure at the moment.

Its a great industry to be in because the focus is on helping others rather that bullshit office politics.

Ill prob. wind up moving soon to be closer to a college campus where I can finish my last year.

On the plus side it gives me unlimited time and energy to bodybuild!

Been unemployed a few times. Theres that first two weeks when you are hitting the clubs or playing xbox 360 or whatever.. then.. it all.. starts to suck. Best bet is to keep the structure in your day i.e. lift - put in apps - practice guitar - go beach or pool etc etc

Bro- I def. learn that the hard way. I started sleeping all day and staying up all night. Why be up during the day with nothing to do? All the good tv is at night and ps3 gaming makes up for the rest. Combine that with 2 surgeries and you have a 165 lb me a few months ago. Happy to say I am now 205 same bf; lifting 6 days a week. I feel like keeping mentally and physically healthy is at least doing something.

Some of the best times Ive had are while I was laid off. I did a lot of camping, quadding, traveling/driving cross country to visit friends. When I work I also put in a lot of hours sometimes and have in the past but that's why I also make the most of my time when I'm not working.

Jobs in this field also keep my sanity. Its one of those jobs that allows you to worry about whats going on with everyone else, so you dont have time to worry about your own short comings.

My life is like the movie ground hog day. Wake , eat , workout, eat, video games, eat, prime time tv, eat, video games, eat, board, sleep, and repeat.

I managed to get 2 surgeries taken care of so far. Which I never would have been able to do while working. I love camping!

you will never find another job sitting inside playing video games and sleeping all day. get on the web or get out of the door and go walk in somewhere and ask them if they are hiring. i understand it is tough out there and especially in that type of field. is there any way to just go work part time at a restaurant or other service industry to where you could maybe go back to school? i am sure there are a lot of programs out there that will help you out in some fields similar to yours with schooling and what not, but you will never know sitting on your rear! if you really want a job, you will do what it takes to find one

yep, i cant get into what im qualified for and ive been relying on doorman jobs in clubs. long story short, i stick the drunken abuse for so long until my temper finally erupts and some prick gets a battering and i get dismissed. its great relief sitting at home until the money starts to dwindle and boredom sets in and then off i go with another firm. im running out of doors and firms in this city and my reputation is starting to go ahead of me lol

I earn more with unemployment benefits from my old job than if I found something new paying 12 an hour. Im willing to take a job with no immediate net increase; but only if it has potential for significant increase.

I think its time for a move.

I had to explain that to several fellow co workers before we got laid off who were freaking out about working and willing to take a job for 1/2 what they were making originally just to work. It was funny to see their face when I asked them why they were going to work for $1 or $2 an hour or sometimes pay to work when you compared it to the unemployment. LOL

I explained they needed to take their time to find the RIGHT job, take some schooling if they wanted and enjoy some time. I reminded them how often they complained they had not time with the family, now they do so make the best of it, even one of my managers. It was especially funny since he was a Christian but had no faith. I had to school him on having faith, what it really mean and how he was not being a good Christian. Hehehehehe

I am gona have to go on unemployment for like 2 months because of my current situation. Just got married and I need enough to live off till I go into the army. They take really good care of married people in there. I really dont want to go on unemployment though. I do applaud anyone who is willing to get less from working to go off unemployment. I think thats a good thing to do.

Why? Unemployment is not welfare, this came out of YOUR check and your employer paid into it. If you dont use it at some point does go back to you or your employer? no it fills someones wallet in government who is already making to much and stealing from us. It's funny how many people think unemployment and welfare are the same thing or similar. Welfare people are sucking off the system. We are having to support them. Unemployment is money that came out of your pay already.

I wish I was laid off n could claim unemployment, hopefully it'll happen soon.
The firm I work for is cash poor n looking to be bought out, hell they don't even pay our suppliers anymore.. The owner mentioned a couple weeks back that we may be closing the doors soon. I'm pumped, hoping it happens.
Got a bunch of money saved and would love to get paid to look for a new job full time. Finding a new job is tough when working 50+ hrs a week and the only way to get out to interviews is to have a "dentist appointment" or similar, but you can only have so many of those.

Small business owners are the back bone of this country. People tend to focus on the success of business owners, rather than the constant possibility of going under. Employees can always walk away and find another job, with out risking their home. Thank you.

Damn. Have you ever tried going over someones head? My last job I had two managers tell me they weren't hiring. I managed to get the owners email... He respected my balls for doing so. Specially in the gym industry they would note that kind of effort.
