dsm your in trouble. I just text jesus a link to this thread
If people can't tell your on steroids then your doing them wrong
my buddies ex mom in law got into trouble financially. after looking at her finances, it was a cash outflow problem. discovered she would send thousands regularly to Jimmy Swaggart. Not sure how you all feel about that, but this guy is two faced, whore mongering, bible thumping piece of shit.
A preist has worked this out well done sherlock now pass it on to the rest of the leaches
I bet he still sends the offering bucket around
fvck, tell me something i dont know.........
I think I shall start a god or no god pole.
^^ ditto all above
they call themselves shepards, sometimes ~ that allways implied to me that they see thier own followers as sheep
so besides allways changing the rules, they also insult the people they care about lol
i rem my primary school teachers enforcing corporal punishment if i complained about going to Mass (they made us every fvcking morning, chapel was right nxt door).
bast@rds
The greatest fairy tale ever told. Can't believe people still fall for this shiit.
I'm not sure how I feel about this thread. I mean we can't bash sexuality or race on this board, but then we go and start bashing religion.
I'm a pretty firm believer and TBH none of this bothers me....Hell I watch (and get a good laugh) Bill Maher and love southpark, but could see how this topic could easy offend some people.
Side note: TV Evangelist are all quacks and give christians a bad name
i get your point, but we arent telling anyone not to believe.
times are changing, the catholic church here in ireland are finding it impossible to recruit new priests and congregations are dwindling big time, i dont know many at my age (36) who even go to mass anymore never mind the younger generations. and as i said previous, i was beat with bamboo canes by primary school teachers for questioning why i had to go to mass, alot of godly love that was!
priests used to be allowed to marry, but when they died and left parish houses to their spouses those dwellings went out of the hands of the catholic church, so they decided that priests should only be 'married' to god to be able to carry out their duties to the fullest. i hate the greed within my 'religion'. its all a con imho, ppl just arent as ignorant and easily led in modern times.
i think as time goes on ppl are less inclined to be controlled by unproven myth. so many religions, how can this be? is there a catholic god, a protestant god, a hindu god? etc etc etc.
i respect your view but for me religion is nothing more than a community law and tax
If you believe in God/Religion, then this is what you are buying into:
It is possible to return to life after being dead for 3 days.
It's possible to walk on water
It's possible to feed several thousand people with less than a dozen items of food
It's possible to become pregnant without having sexual intercourse
That a star in the sky (do you guys realise how BIG a star is) can guide 2 people to a town. I mean seriously....stars cannot move like that. They. Just. Can't. The gravitational forces on other celestial bodies would be colossal.
How can any of this be accepted? I mean it's just an insult to human intelligence. We're supposed to laugh at vampires, yet here we have a book saying a man rose from the dead. I mean how is this any different from the tooth fairy? I marvel at the intelligence of anyone that signs on for that shit. The above examples are from The New Testamont. The Old Testamont is even more absurd. Burning bushes talking to people. Creating a complex life form out of mud. MUD?!

Well, I'm not gonna get into it or the even the science behind why I believe what I believe...I can see this discussion would get far out of control. I will say that I'm not a blind faith kind of guy and there was a time in my life that I questioned it all...and specifically went out of my way to try to disprove christianity. I couldn't. However, the way I see it. Religion in itself is flawed, the people that are religious are usually flawed in their thinking, but the belief in a higher power I believe is truth.
The "Church", bible thumpers, muslim extremist, cult followers, are what gives a belief in a higher power a bad name. There are always extremist in any religion. Catholics have been given a bad name for a long time. Are all catholics bad...of course not, but the greedy, power happy, people that run the catholic church give it a bad name.
Flagg, I'm not going to argue with you or anyone else about religion nor insult the intelligence of someone for believing or not believing as it goes against this boards rules. My sister firmly believes that Atlantis was real and they had modern day airplanes. My common sense tells me this is ridiculous, she offers me proof through scientific discovery, and I talk myself out of believing that as well, why because my mind won't allow me to believe that. She could be right, I could be right. Who knows for certain of anything. Everyday new discoveries are made that disprove our current views. SO I say let people believe what they want as long as they're not hurting anyone. If they want to live there life being good honest people and don't try to shove their religion down their throat...who does it harm.
My.02
But that's just it, religion is a problem. It's a hindrance. It slows down cultural and societal growth.
Take America. Every Presidential candidate has to believe in God. Why is that so important? Why would an Athiest running for Prez not stand a chance in Hell?
God doesn't send out beggars so if your tv ministers start begging then turn the channel. And I know of only one tv preacher who teaches the Bible chapter by chapter and verse by verse. That in itself is sad.
Dingleberry (can't remember his name right now) is a morman...To most christians that's worse than an athiest...and he's doing alright.
I have little to no problem with the spiritual principles almost every religion teaches. If someone choses to believe in something and it helps them to live a more spiritual existence then more power to them. I am hard pressed to see how spiritual priciples can be a bad thing. I am also hard pressed to see how an overall increase in spirituality would or could be a bad thing that would hold this world back - in fact I feel quite the opposite.
Dont get me wrong - im not talking some hippie , shangrila BS , but if more people took it upon themselves to incorporate more spiritual principles (or hell just principles) in their lives the world would be a better place. If faith or religion is the vehicle for that - I dont see that as bad.
Now the bastardization of said principles - thats another story.
ps - As an observation - your post is pretty narrow in its focus - especially for you - considering Christianity is only one of many religions. While you opinion may be broader in its focus - you pretty clearly directed it at only one religion.

No she can't be right. We all know it. And this is the problem with religion. You cant call someone out on the bullshit because you might offend someone.
There was no modern day airplanes come on. And yes if someone truly believes that i wouldnt trust them with anything of any responsibility.
If people can't tell your on steroids then your doing them wrong
i've yet to see religion prove there is a god
i've yet to see science prove there is no god
