    pet owners

I moved into a new complex and apparently it has fleas outside. I have a dog and a cat. Both inside animals. The dog goes out when i take him for walks. Now they both have fleas. I have given them both flea baths. Put flea collars on them and the stuff you put on the back of their necks. They still got them. I dont know what else to try

    Dont take them out.

Borax all over the carpet. And no white socks around. They love white socks for some reason.
Life is too short, so kiss slowly, laugh insanely, love truly and forgive quickly.

for dogs, comfortis is a chewable pill that kills fleas on them and after that prevents infestation for a month. for cats, the only long term (monthly) preventative is the fluid (advantage, revolution) on the neck. you have to be careful about this by rubbing it in (down onto the skin where it is absorbed) or it will just roll off like water off a ducks back, thereby not doing its job. don't even bother if it's bought at a supermarket (hartz). get the prescription type. a short term flea killer which kill everything within a few hours but isn't long lasting is the capstar pill. this is available for dogs and cats.

You mentioned prescription type and advantage. They sell advantage at the pet stores with out a script. Is there 2 different strengths?

perhaps they began selling advantage otc since i last used it. but if they do nowadays i'd think it would be ok. but it's very important that it gets to the skin where it ccan be absorbed or you're just going to piss the cat off, especially when she goes to clean the spot it has run down on her leg and such

the only way to full proof this is to get the source eliminated, there must be alot of vermin, stray dog or cat activity outside the complex? fleas need animals to live on.
ive never had any probs with cats or dogs but i had afew mite invasions on boas and pythons i used to collect, i had to literally fumigate their vivs and the immediate surrounding area, the bast@rds were so small they made a flea look like an elephant!

Try Frontline Plus... we get it from 800-petmeds for our dog and has always worked like a charm. You can also get it at just about any pet store but it usually costs a lot more.

"Frontline Plus is a monthly topical flea and tick preventative for dogs and cats. Frontline Plus kills 100% of adult fleas on your pet within 12 hours and 100% of all ticks and chewing lice within 48 hours. Frontline Plus contains an insect growth regulator, S-methoprene, which kills flea eggs and larvae. It’s effective against all stages of the brown dog tick, the American dog tick, the lone star tick and the deer tick (the major carrier of Lyme disease). (3 Pack = 3 doses which lasts 3 months.)
Frontline Plus for Dogs and Cats
For: Cats/Kittens and Dogs/Puppies (8 weeks of age and older)

    Benefits:
    • Kills all existing fleas on your pet within 12 hours
    • Each application provides a full month of protection
    • Also aids in the control of sarcoptic mange infections
    • Great for pets that swim since it's waterproof
    • Kills ticks and chewing lice"

What do people use/do about ticks on their dogs? Mine seem to be collecting the entire tick-population of the area at the moment. I searched through Pet Express and found some really helpful means. But still quite interesting what's everyone using
