Tattoos
I have a very small tattoo i got when i was 18. It's on my deltoid, and it's not well done.
Recently, i saw someone in the gym with an impressive tattoo - a mauri-style tat on his arm. It made him look tougher than he otherwise would, but i reckon it is just show. The guy looked too pretty to be tough
Anyway, it got me thinking about the purpose of the tattoo. My tattoo is small, and not 'tough', but i don't want a tough tattoo - because i'm not tough. I've never been in a fight, not very big, not very 'hard'. I do martial arts, but i'm not that good at it. I'm too old and pre-occupied being a parent to 'get' tough at this stage in my life. A tattoo won't make it happen, so i'm not getting another one.
I wouldn't say i regret getting my tattoo, but i think i'd prefer i didn't have it. It serves no purpose anymore, it never really did.
Why do we get tattoos? Why'd you get yours? Do you wish you'd done something different, or not got it at all?

I got my tattoo because I was 17 and at the time thought it was a great idea. I now know I lacked the maturity to make that decision at that time. I was however smart enough not to get it on my arm or neck lol.

No worries.

I have so many that its pointless to even blur my face. If someone knows me then they will reconize my tattoos. Oh and I'm not done until I finish my sleeve on my right arm. People tend to think I'm more badass then I really am. Haha its awesome.

I've got 2 huge ones. And for Christmas I got a gift certificate from my artist that will cover my next 2 and part of another one. The one that takes up my left side, chest,& abdomen is extremely important to me the one across my entire upper back is a combo of importance and pure art work. I love both of them and both can be covered with a t shirt. Also when I decided to go wife beater you can see parts of both of them. My next 2 will be my interpretation of how I've matured/grown and the other one will be a portrait of my Great Dane. Never had an animal that I truly feel like I connect with. I'm not a moody person but as of late with not working I have been a little more "depressed" (for lack of better term) and he always knows the exact mood I'm in an somehow makes it better. Or if I'm in a great mood he keeps the party going.
OP if it is as small as you say why don't you get it removed?

when i was 49 and my kid 20, he wanted us to get matching tatts. some celtic design almost in the left armpit.
my tatts need to be discrete. I avoided tatts the first 40 years of my life, and now I get em. I see it as no big deal. if you like em, then get em.
just no swastikkas on my forehead for me please!

I've given tattooing a shot but I was not good at it and it is actually hard work.
Have a few friends that are tattoo artists so over the years I've collected a bunch. LE would describe me as heavily tattooed.
I limit the tattoos I get to be able to cover with long sleeve dress shirt so hands and neck are off limits for me. That is my personal choice.
In answer to why I get them for me it is just because I like them. No special meaning behind them. I'm older now and still do not regret them.

A lot of the military guys get tattoos. In the old days it was just about an exclusive club ..... military and nutters. Now-a-days almost anyone can have one and there are a lot more females with them as well.

I started getting tattoos when I was 15. Now I have 2 full sleeves and and a full back piece. At first I got them cause it was the cool thing to do. Then as I got older I got them for the love of the art. Sometimes I wish I had chosen the locations better but now they are apart of me and kinda define me and I would change em.

I got my first tattoo this year at age 53. I don't regret the decision at all as it is a meaningful tat on my left chest and has my wife and 2 daughters names on it. My only advice is not to get into too many tattoos at a young age. I am glad that I waited until now.

Sure are addictive I had a back piece and it was soon followed by 2 smaller tatts looking on getting a portrait of my daughter within the next month or two just trying to find the best place for it to go.

I wanted something different:
Realist: A person who sees things as they truly are. A practical person. The pessimist complains about the wind; The optimist expects it to change; The realist adjusts the sails. — William Arthur Ward

Been considering getting a tat...until this lady in her mid 50s said "everyone has them these days; I find the person without them more interesting" . If I am to, would be a phrase with significant meaning to me...on my foot...discreet!

My celtic tatt is practilly up inside my left armpit. talk about a sensitive area. took the dude an hour, which isn't too long. But i had to twist my arm back behind my head to really expose my pitt, and give him a good angle to work. after awhile my arm kept going to sleep.
other problem with getting a nice shiny new tatt, is that it makes the older tatts look dull and dingy. now i'm going back for "touch ups" next month, so they all look the same

not feminine, so I'm neutral on that one.
there was this lady, i may have mentioned it before. she worked as a waitress at the Ale House in Livermore, CA. she was about a 7.5. but she had this amazing tattoo that ran from the small of her back, up to her shoulder blades, and to the base of her neck. it was a rose vine, very very elegent, with little rose buds all along. that tattoo alone, imho, from a 7.5 to almost a 9. she always wore an outfit that revealed her tatt, and I've spent many an afternoon imagining what it would be like to retrace that tatt with my tongue, all the way up to her milky white neck.
she always wore her hair pinned up, fully exposing her long neck. damn! haven't seen her in over a year!!Last edited by Times Roman; 01-08-2012 at 11:52 AM.

Not bothered by tatt's but I think people who are getting them should get them for the right reasons and they suit their persona imo.

They are ugly, tacky, and gaudy. I've never seen one I thought was even remotely attractive or interesting, and I can't understand why people feel the need to deface their body with them.

Well, some would call carving a swastika on your forehead art.
While some do it for art, I think most do it to try and be a badass.
Either way, I would never consider it.

Everyone gets them for differnt reasons. I have 3 of them and would like to get one more but I am grounded from spending money for a while. I hate getting ino trouble.
