this is what it looked like the day i paid cash for it. However, this bike and my bike are no longer the same bike, so just imagine the same color, yet low profile recurve fairing, more chrome, completely different engine (even different jugs), and a shit load of other custom crap. true duly vance hines pipes, and blah blah blah, you get the idea.

at first glance, it almost looks the same. we were sittingn over at Jamestown harley one time, and struck up a conversation with some blokes right before the poker run. at first the guy is like... nice bike. then he started looking at it, and said... what did you do to your engine? the jugs aren't stock, are they? so i kind of went over all the mods, from the new larger jugs, high compression engine, to the larger heads (ported and polished), new "hotter" ignitiion, new adjustable cams, new clutch, and all the way down to the crank assembly where the stroke has been increased giving me more torque. even the exhaust is 100% different. on the other side, i had to take the horn off and replace it with a fan cooling system when in "parade" mode. the only thing i really havne't touched is the tranny, frame, seats, handlebars, paint, and i guess that's about it. even the luggage on the back i've installed a quick release, and comes off in about 2 minutes, if i want to go in "sport" mode. and those ugly antennas in the back? gone. replaced with an 18" antenna.
the bike comes standard with an adjustable air suspension system, so no real need to mod that. I can put my woman on the back, packking a full load, going up a steep hill, at 8000 feet, and easy pull over 100mph.
this bike wasn't designed to be a wrist rocket. it was designed, like a truck, to be a work horse, with crap loads of torque.

if i had a current pic of my harley, i'd post it. but this was a new laptop for me when i came to afghanistan, and didn't load all my pics on it.
what i like most about this style harley, is it will take you anywhere, anytime. I've ridden in extreme hail, extreme rain, friggin winds of 80+ mph. it holds all your shit, and keeps you warm too (lower and upper fairing) wear the right gear (leathers) and i pretty much can go almost anywhere in north america, almost anytime. never ridden this one in the snow before, but have ridden other m/c in the snow.
this fukker just gets you there, and even after riding all day, you are still feeling pretty good to go party and shoot pool all night.

Here is a pic of my old bike. Unfortunately it was stolen in aug. Put 60k miles on it riding all over the country. Bike will be truly missed.
Here is a pic of my ultra. It's the limited model which was the first bike to have the 103 motor in 2010. Bike has everything ABS, heated grips, satellite radio. I plan to do a coast to coast trip on it this year.
Picture is not great I took it this morning in my parking garage.

^ like your second bike better mate! i am not a big fan of abs brakes. i want to control the braking, not some computer chip that thinks it should loosen the brake pads when i want to squeeze down harder. been riding all my life, and too experienced, to subcontract out my "thinking" to some computer chip in this area. if i want to lock up my brakes, then dammit, let's lock em up!!!
I haven't been coast to coast on mine, but i did go coast to coast in 81. jan 17th to jan 20th, SF to Savannah Georgia. had to go through the rockies in a snow storm (lordsburgh to los crucias). what a wild and COLD ride!!!
Farthest non stop i've been is Modesto to Sturgis. only 1500 miles, but it was one helluva nice ride.
ya know, they keep making em bigger and bigger every year it seems. all the work i've done to mine, and i'm sitting at 105ci.
the only complaint i have with the 4 speaker system is a seriuos lack of bass response. i've been mulling over what i want to do about that. hawg wired has a good solution, but minimum $1600 to get you there.

^^ it's funny. my buddies were calling my bike a geezer bike when i first got/built it. but they'd also see me ride all day, lug all my sh1tff, and g2g after riding several hours. then i started noticing my buddies asking me to lug their sh1t too. slowly, over time, the laughing stopped, and now a good chunk of my buddies have "geezer" bikes.
they also stopped laughing when my geezer bike was faster than theirs, even with the luggage and fairing. a rule of thumb on ultras, is that you should be able to pick up 10mph on the top end by simply getting a smaller fairing, and removing some of the luggage. My bike does 140mph fully loaded. it's not so extremely quick because i built it like a truck (long stroke for instance), but damn if it don't haul sh1t through the mountains....

You went 1500 miles non stop? I thought I was a nut doing Daytona Beach to New York 1100 miles in one day.

yea ABS takes getting used to. I almost turned it off after the first few times it kicked in and caught me by surprise.

i guess i did say non stop. what i meant was, and if you were doing the vulcan mind meld thing you would have known, was that in a single road trip, one way. actually, i had the woman on the back, and it took three days to get there.
but i did go 3000 miles in 3 days on my kawi in 1981 during that snow storm in the rockies i was telling you about.
i did daytona the following year, 1982, and saw the 500. one helluva story. we went with hardly any cash, didn't pay to get in (snuck in) and sweet talked two different lady cashiers on the way back to fill my tank for me (i was broke). took a buddy with me too, back in the day when a dude riding bitch wasnt' a big deal. but i started from savannah, so not a terrible distance.

I remember road trips like that. I had a CB900 while I was stationed in Madrid Spain in the 80's. traveled all over on that bike with no money and had a great time. When it was cold I'd shove newspapers in my clothes to keep warm.
I almost feel like I'm cheating riding a great bike with a wallet full of credit cards. But I'm not complaining. I usually do all my traveling alone. I like to ride as long as I want and stop when I want. I've done some road trips with groups but I'd rather take the road alone.

fawk! you and i must come from the same stock! you know the newspaper trick to stay warm???? I'm impressed mate.
I shipped my kz1000 to germany and rode the hell out of it over there too. autobahn was a trip. felt guilty to be able to be hitting 140+ without looking over my shoulder for cops.
my MC was stolen in April of that year, so i only got to ride it in the snow. rode from bremen to stuttgart (741k) in non stop rain. to make matters worse, no shield on my helmet or bike, and leathers soaked up the rain in about an hour, so i had to shiver the rest of the way to stuttgart. it was an incredibly painful ride, to say the least, to be shivering and flexing to stay warm for over 8 hours.
and i couldn't wear eye protection (sunglasses) because could not see out them with all the rain drops on them the whole time

Funny how lack of cash can make one inventive. Don't remember where I got that trick maybe an old bike magazine. I didn't get my first rain gear until I was 40 so I know how you feel freezing in the rain. Now I have rain gear, heated gear, all the crap to keep me riding all year round.
I guess we both paid our dues on the road. Wouldn't change a thing though had a great time and plan to continue, just a bit more comfort now in the older years.

this is going to sound funny, but when i was a kid, i was an avid reader of Easy Rider. they had a tricks and tips section is where i learned about the newspaper trick. works pretty damn good too!
i think i rebuilt that engine twice, on a shoe string budget. one time my points went out, so i modified some VW points and made it work on my kawi. another time the back end of my headers fell off, so i welded on a hush thrush muffler on with a coat hanger. i was the king of roadside repairs with parts that weren't supposed to work. i used to carry around 50 feet of nylon rope. my bike was extremely reliable, but i'd see other bikers along side the road, and quite often i'd tow them back to base. i helped out half a dozen dudes like that while at ft. stewart, and then, there was a pretty good click of us that rode together.
flash forward 30 years. there is NO WAY in HELL i could do any of that with my harley. shit! you have to be a computer programmer just to adjust my power commander!!!

Damn, edgarr, that Lincoln is nice.
Here are two of my cars. The gray one is primarily my wife's. We also have some practical cars not worth posting. And, no, that isn't my wife.
