    Mom's gettin a little old...(sigh)

    Hey Guys,

I thought i would pass this question by the group ....to see if you can help.

My mom is 81 yrs old now (i can't believe it). And she's getting frail...and loosing her appetite. She still gets around, drives, walks fine, but "not as strong" as she once was (guess this will happen to all of us). I'm afraid she won't be able to get around on her own for much longer if she doesn't get her appetite back.

Any way...does anyone know of a drug or ingredient that will help stimulate her appetite?

I thought about gettin some cannabis (weed) and coaxing her to smoke some (i know its worked for me) to stir her appetite...but i honestly don't' know what else to do (sigh).

I hate to see her like this...she was once a very beautiful woman (my old man got more than he deserved when he found her).

Any constructive input is greatly appreciated.

    thnks!

    ~T

    Same with mine (80).
So I took her to my Andro, just few weeks ago, to do full BW.
Was thinking of all the hormone talk on here ...T3/T4, Estro etc. Why not dial her back 30 years in hormoneproduction!?!?!?!?!
But her BW cam back great!. Not gonna fvck with it.
However high cortisol and cholesterol. She´s eating too much sweets.
Told her she´s gonna start feel a hell of a lot better if she cut the junk, and eat high fat/protein. And she is!

Take your Mom to do a full panel. You might find something.

    Ok....thanks Guys!

I just thought of something else...b-12 shots. They help me with energy and i know many of the Dr's recommend them for old-timers.

Best of luck to you and your mom. I was going to suggest the cannibis thing too for the appetite. Hope all works out for her.

Its tough when there that age....my grandma is 89 and she looks about 79 lol she swear by her daily walks and diet! in her words "If I didnt do my 30 min walk every day I wouldnt be walking at all" she likes to stay somewhat active to keep her muscles moving and keep mobile and also keep her appetite. Also she find meat to bother her stomach so she only eats meat twice a day and she doesnt eat much of it...mabey 3-4oz at a time.

Her diet and daily routine is like this and she literally eats and does the same thing every day!

    1/2 cup fruit
    1 slice toast

30 min walk either out side with me or around the house

small amount of meat (w.e is left over)
    1/2 cup veggies
    table spoon sweet potato

    1/3 cup oatmeal
1tbs bran cereal (mixed with the oats)
    dried cranberries
    1tbs frozen blue berries

small amount of meat (w.e we cook for dinner)
    1/2 cup veggies
1tbs what ever carbs we cook

She also take fish oil, vitamin e, and a fiber supplement....and a bunch of other meds she gets from the doc.

P.S she lives with us at the moment because that way if she fall or something happens we are there.

Oh and another thing! I find it helps to give her chores or tasks that way she feels she not a burden and she feels she has a purpose...gives her a reason to get up in the morning! it can be hard when your that age and you feel like you just a burden to everyone!

I have her make my mom breakfast every morning (my mom is bad for not eating breakfast) every morning she gets up and makes my mom 1/2 cup greek yogurt/fruit/1/4 cup granola and a cup of coffee, brings it to her room and then cleans up the kitchen...I can tell she really enjoys doing this! it gives her a reason to get up and makes her feel like she is helping out and doing her part....its not alot but it means alot to her!

Often its not the appetite that is the problem but rather the mind! when your 81, most of your friends are dead, dieing, or sick, and you the only thing you do all day is watch t.v or play cards life doesnt seem so exciting....you have a lot more time on your hands to think and sometimes that can be a bad thing! If she has a purpose and a place in the world or at least she feels she does then it might ease her minds and give her back some life!

Sorry to hear this Schmid....sounds like you had a rough life. My old man had a problem with alcho. (along with numerous other issues) He was Dayum lucky to find a woman like my mom....they are rare and hard to find.

If he's got ALZHEIMERS, then i don't think...he can't "fully" comprehend what you are saying.

    mate,
I'm from cali, and we have medical marijuana. and i think the answer could be cannibas. but if she isn't into rolling a doobie and sparking up, there are other options. for one, you can get her an electrical device. you plug in a load, and the device heats the load to above the boiling point of THC, and then fill a plastic baggie with this "exhaust". it's not really even smoke, because there is no burning. so she just inhales from the baggie, a couple of times, and she will get the munchies. the other cool thing about this device, is that since no smoke, then the smell really doesn't get on her clothes or her breath too much. My folks live in a retirement community, heavily republican (think... just say "NO" to drugs), and there is a significant % here that have their medical marijuana license. So it's NOT uncommon for older folk to partake of the herb.

we are boarder line talking street drugs (just not for street purposes), which is against the rules, so if you want to learn more, just PM me.

My mom looked 10-15 years younger than she was up until the last year before she passed away September 2010 age 86.

You said your moms appetite is not good? Find out if she things things taste different, not as good. Dont ignore it.. Lack of appetite or things tasting different, not good anymore is one of the signs of cancer. My mom mentioned it a few times about a year before we found out she had pancreatic cancer.

Pretty much except for when they are looking for something specific they do xray or scans.

Dont over simplify things by thinking it's just age related. It could be like my mom who didnt say much of anything until it was to late. Decreased appetite, loosing weight, felt a little pressure in the stomach, just not feeling GOOD. Make her get checked out fully. I wish two years ago I knew what I know now.

ALS and alzheimers are way different. I cant quite explain ALS as i dont fully understand it but it makes AIDS and cancer look like a dream. I say let her get baked, make her sum food with the thc in it. Idk how but im sure you can make a few healthy snacks for her with it. best of luck. If iv learned one thing in life its that its very short and you better make the most out of it while you have the chance

thanks Schmidty....sorry about the mis-understanding. Just looked up ALS.

10-4 on life being too short...gotta enjoy every day of good health you got....and try not to make stupid mistakes. That's the biggest time waster of all.
