Why do I see sparks from the carbon brushes? I have already replaced them hoping to fix this issue but it didn't, hopefully someone knows about power tools, thanks.

Did you blow the motor out? See if that works. Does it smell like carbon monoxide when you run it?
Does your compressor have a sucking attachment?

Would need the model number to look any further.
did it spark before you put the new brushes in ? they will spark somewhat. you might also need to bed the new brushes in if they are not already formed to diameter of the commutator.
like Razr says blow excess carbon dust out and if looks like there is build up of carbon between the copper sections, use a razor blade to seperate the copper sections.
if you are getting sparks else where it means you have an earthing problem.
There were sparks before, I did clean all the copper areas where the brushes make contact but they got dirty pretty fast after the install. I will remove the casing tomorrow and clean them in between with a blade, thanks...Quote:

The tips on cleaning the commutator, bedding in the brushes are right on time.
With the commutator cleaned and the brushes bedded to the commutator if the problem persists, there is the possiblity that the compressor motor uses a run capacitor? If you have one and its not functional that will cause the same problem with good brushes.
Well I took it to get it fix and it cost almost 700 thats almost twice the cost of a new one.
