I haven't been able to convince my wife to get a conceal carry permit. She has a dinky thing of pepper spray, I really should convince her to get something better. She is afraid of having the gun around kids that could get into her purse etc.

If i had kids (toddlers) then i would be worried about having a gun in the house. If i did i would have to have some sort of lock for the trigger or a locked gun rack.

Yeah, right now my gun is hidden where my daughter can't get it cause she is young, but she is a climber and gets into things, we are still going over what we want to do so that the gun can be readily accessible in an emergency. I suggested a trigger lock for a gun in her purse, but how do you get that off fast enough? Theres already the 21 ft rule for if you have a gun holstered at your side not even concealed, concealed its even harder to draw in time, let alone in a purse.

I know. The recommend that you have a gun locked away in one area then the ammo locked away in another. What the hell you going to do when you wake up in the middle of the night and hear someone coming down your hallway?

I own a gun, but we live in Jersey where it's illegal to carry. So even if my wife were down with it, it wouldn't be much use.

pepper spray affects people differently. for some reason, it doesn't bother me too much. in basic, we had to make a trip through the gas chamber, and they hit us with tear gas. i was calm the whole time, and only caughed a little. everyone else was beating on the door, and when the door finally did open, became a huge chaotic stampede to get out. i calmly walked out. DS looked at me goofy trying to figure out why i wasn't going nuts like everyone else.
my point is this. pepper spray doesn't work on everyone. AND it doesn't work on those on drugs, especially PCP.

bad thing about spray is anyone with a brain who is going to attack a female who he thinks/expects to be carrying mace/ect can simply throw a shower towel over the can or pull a hoodie over their head and charge the victim...
the old college keychain spray can has been around forever and most students forget about it

That Fox Pepper Spray works good.
you can buy 2 or 3 diff. sizes. I carry the 2oz size and keep the larger one at the home.
One day i was fvckin around with some...practicing range. It shoots up to 6ft...and will fvck anyone up in that range....including the shooter. I breathed in just a little of that chit in....and started to gag, choke and tear up like a hysterical crack whore.
Make sure you empty the can on your target. If they happened to be cranked up on Meth....they may not feel it immediately. I recommend dispensing the entire car on them...and then leaving the area. Don't try to save spray for next use....use the whole can. They lose pressure and will not shoot distance after you've dispensed just one time. Basically, you throw it away after one use.
You can come back in about 2 mins...and basically do what you want to the target. But the spray itself...is very nasty.
If you see someone shaking a can of pepper spray at you....turn and run. Hopefully you are faster than they are.Last edited by tcw; 02-22-2012 at 10:24 PM.

here is a small quote from a website http://cd.wrytestuff.com/swa136243.htm
Ok CN and CS are designed to be irritants to membrane tissues. In normal person speak that means it causes pain and tearing from the eyes. Now being an irritant one could build up an immunity to the spray. Many military organizations actually make their soldiers repeatedly expose themselves to tear gas to build up their tolerance in the case it is used by an enemy.
Now OC is a whole different animal, it isn’t an irritant like CN or CS, it is in fact an inflammatory causing agent. In normal speak, it most likely will force them to shut their eyes instantly and it causes the eye capillaries to dilate causing temporary “blindness".
If that wasn’t enough it also inflames the respiratory system causing extreme pain which most likely will double over the attacker and he will have trouble breathing, not enough to die but it will severely limit his ability and desire to keep attacking. You can see the benefit.
OC no matter how many times I have been hit, which is in the double digits easily, I still can't physically open my eyes because of the effects of it. its so strong in the eyes that no matter how tough you are your body will literally shut your eyes, if hit with a good hit to the eyes you have to use your fingers to open your eye lids to wash them out..

Yeah....but she can't just spray anyone she wants. She'll be subject to a lawsuit....and maybe a bad one at that.
Gotta have good judgment when using this stuff. Even though its only pepper spray....someone could get seriously injured from getting sprayed (i've seen guys fall down and hit their heads on a curbstone after getting sprayed. If someone has a heart condition...they may suffer a heart attack or stroke after getting sprayed).
Bottom line: You need a good reason to use any kinda weapon against another human being. The alternative is...to make sure there are no witnesses.
