Ruptured Spleen
My good friend's 14 yo son just got in an accident and ruptured his spleen. He's being medi-vacd to Children's Hospital in D.C. I've known this kid since he came out of the womb (my oldest is 2 months younger) and I'm freaking out. They don't want us to come down just yet. If you are of faith, please send a prayer. If not, just good thoughts will do.
Thx,
Igi

Thoughts are with your friends son may he have a speedy recovery. They can do amazing things now days. That's not nearly as serous as it was 15+ years ago. Its still serious of course but people make full recovery nowadays.
Keep us informed.

Thanks guys. So they got him to the hosp and rated his injury a '3' from 1-5 so it still could be serious but they're not rushing to surgery. They think it may stop bleeding by itself and they're keeping him in ICU overnight to monitor him.
He's such a good kid too and a great friend to my kids. Thanks again for the good thoughts.

Thanks dude. Going to see the little man now. They just moved him out of ICU. Looks like no surgery needed. Appreciate the positive thoughts.

Well hopefully by the time you report back all will be much better for him. Man 14 is awful to be going through something like this, but as posted above thank goodness it has happened in todays times where the medicine and techniques are so much improved to handle such trauma. And here's hoping that they don't even have to do surgery. That would be even better on him. Let us know the update IGI.

I been there, first time was age 10, luckily they didn't have to remove it! Responsible for immune system functions/white blood cell creation. You can live without one but it sucks due to the weak immune system afterwords.
One thing though for sure, MAKE HIM REALIZE THAT HE HAS INCREDIBLE LUCK. He will get to that conclusion on his own eventually but you should help him understand that he is one of the most lucky people ALIVE. Could have EASILY gone a different way if he was situated even an inch to the right or left.
Ive gotten in crazy life threatening accidents about every 9 years so far, Even died a couple times. When I talk to people they say wow you have really bad luck. What they don't really realize is I'm one of the luckiest people ALIVE.....

Thanks for the love again everyone. Little dude went home today and got right on the Xbox (good sign). He's got to be at low activity for 5 weeks and he's expected to recover fully.
Bryan that's crazy dude. How long we're you gone for and this happened twice? Can you remember what it was like? Really interested in that kind of stuff.

Gone for a few minutes paramedics shocked me back.
Drowned once and was resuscitated few minutes as well.
kinda hard to describe but picture a very heavy sinking feeling coming from inside your chest almost like all of your organs are slowly being pulled down out of your body towards the ground and felling very tired and going to sleep
