Secondhand smoke
So my neighbor is sofvcking annoying. Every time I go outside in my backyard I get to smell cigarette smoke. I mean if our fan or windows are open it comes inside our house. Our lots aren't that big, but if there isn't a breeze then we get to smell that crap, even on the front of the house go out to even take out the trash you get to breathe it in. Wife is pregnant and don't want her breathing in second hand smoke either. Wouldn't think its that bad being outside, but it really is, and gets in our house. Not to mention her cough that sounds like she is going to choke out a lung, and how she talks on the phone, and talks to her grandaughter, I don't want my kids to listen to that, don't need my two year old dropping f bombs. I'm not really in a financial situation to move just yet, only lived in this house for under 2 years.
Is there anything I can do? I mean I don't even know what to say to her. Don't swear and smoke in your own backyard? I mean that would sound ridiculous, I dunno though I wouldn't mind telling her to stfu if I'm out their with my kids, of course I would ask nicely first. I wish they would just move, I mean they can't even fit all their vehicles in front of their house, they need more space. All my other neighbors across and to the sides and on my other side are decent and don't bother me, and actually really nice. She is just super white trash. I just wish there was 5 acres near by I could build a house on. Tons of land around here, but the stupid fvcking BLM owns it all. Oh well I might sound retarded, but wish there was a decent way to handle the situation. Ideas?

i smoke and hate the smell of it as i dont smoke in house, but outside, its game on.
how about u talk to her about it, there could be a very easy solution. and smoking and cursing doesnt make someone white trash man, go talk to her about it.
also, look into those air sanitizers that spray every couple minutes, my lady has them all over.

is she breaking any laws?
does she smoke on her property or yours?
does she litter with cigarette butts on the ground?
I'll be honest. on the one hand i'll agree with you to a certain extent. non smoker for over 25 years.....
.....BUT!!!
cigarette smokers do have a right to smoke, and we as a society have bashing thier brains for over 20 years.
----cig packs over $4/pack now (total bullshiit if you ask me)
.....extremely limited where they can smoke
......people look at smokers like they have leprocy (sp?)
so i would politely suggest if your neighbor is smoking on her own property, then you just let it go. maybe if you keep your windows closed on that side of the house.
how would you like it if someone appproaches you and says that when you BBQ in your back yard, they find the smell unbearable, hard to breath, and would you please not bbq in your back yard anymore? sounds ridicolous, right?
or if you play your radio in your back yard, and they ask you not to do so, since they find the style of music you enjoy highly offensive?
think before you act!
you folks live in close, confinced quarters which requires a fair amount of tolerence. If you don't like it, go buy a house in the country where you don't have neighbors.
just my .02

I'd go ask politely.. explain to her that you have kids and a pregnant wife and maybe even embelish a little. Say your kid has bad asthma n cigarette smoke triggers it and makes it hard for him to breathe.
From her side of things, maybe she smokes out back because she enjoys sitting out there or doesn't like to smoke in the house.. who knows.. but a little consideration on her part is not too much to ask, especially the language part.
I live in a condo n my neighbors below me do the same thing. Luckily my gf isnt prego n I have no kids, but none the less I still have to keep our bedroom, kitchen, and family room windows/doors closed or it smells like a burnt cigarette factory... They chain smoke out there 24/7... On the plus side, they tolerate my 50lb boxer pouncin around n playin all the time n it sounds like their ceiling is gonna collapse.. so I can't complain too much...
Oh the joy of living in close quarters

I think your just stuck there isn't anything you can do, other than mount fans on the outside and blow it back.

ahaha yeah, i totally get what everyone is saying. I even thought of some massive outdoor fans lol. That's why I haven't said anything, but I'll be playing outside with my daughter and have to go inside the house. Sad thing is we live in the country, drive 1 or 2 hours in either direction to get decent groceries. Population is 2500 people. BLM just owns all the land. And there is one place that has larger properties but you have to haul your own water to your property.
I have to keep windows closed on that side of the house, but somehow when our swamp cooler is running which is on other side of house it still pulls the smell into the house. I figure I'm out of luck except to encourage her to quit, lol right. Ok so what about the foul language when my kids are outside? Surely I can ask her to control herself when kids are outside, wish she wasn't so rude and awful to her grandchild, but at least if my kids are outside I should have some right to say something to her, just ask her to consider us? For that matter its sound polluting over, the smoking is air polluting over. Really tempted to ask her if we are playing in the back yard not to smoke back there.

Try to purchase a couple of LARGE FANS...and REDIRECT the smoke away from your yard. Each time you go outside...turn the Fans on first and watch the smoke go the other way.
As far as her language goes...just tell your kids "that's what you don't want to be like."
OTHER THAN that...Let see
-threaten her...with physical violence.
-Buy a Pit Bull dog...get some insurance...and let the dog loose on her.

What is it with white trash that they have to chain smoke like a mother ****er? At $40 a carton those marlboros are knocking down 15% of their dollar general cashier income but they are too stupid to quit. The skin on their hands and around their mouth and eyes is worn to shit by the time they are 30 because they started when they were 12. They have that hacking cough and raspy man voice to go with their leathery beat up skin and yellow teeth. When I see these people, I thank god I wasn't born into a family where this lifestyle is acceptable or even encouraged. Cigarettes do nothing for you. They make you look like a porn stars beat up roast beef lips and eventually kill you in one of the most nasty ways possible to die. Lung cancer is a horrible way to die. It will take a strapping man say 230+ lbs, and when its done that guy will weigh less than 100 lbs and his lungs will smother him to death cutting off the oxygen to his brain and organs. But it doesn't happen overnight - its a long slow process. Ive been guilty of picking up a pack here or there or smoking a cigar but Im telling you this is no way to live and no way to die.

I could eat some roast beef right now.

This is hands down my biggest pet peeve in the world. It's the most selfish, ignorant, scum bag habit on the face of the planet. It seems like more than 50% of the people I meet are smokers. And yes, if you "only smoke when you drink" then you're a fvcking smoker. If these people were only damaging their health and taking years off of their lives, then I would have no problem with it. However, there has been quite a few studies indicating that second hand smoke can be more detrimental to ones health compared to first hand smoking. Not to mention, it makes our hair, clothing, vehicles, and house smell like complete shit when people walk by puffing away. I think the law in Jersey is that every smoker has to be more than 15 feet of the entrance of a club/bar/lounge to be able to smoke. Motherfvckes are always trying to smoke within inches from the doorway and they puff their second hand smoke right back into the building. Why should they give a fvck? They've already damaged their health, so who cares if everyone else has to suffer? I will NOT date a woman who smokes a lot, smokes a little, smokes at all ,etc- it's like kissing a chimney; disgusting. I do enjoy sleeping with women who smoke though because they get out of breath easily. It makes me look like a champ because I don't do cardio, I just fvck their lungs out.
To the OP: It sounds like this lady is the typical piece of trailer trash that you would see on COPS or in a movie. Try to catch her when she is sober, I know, probably impossible, but tell her all the negative side effects her habit has on you and your family. Remain cool and calm. Ask her politely if there is anyway that she could smoke in her house with windows closed. She will probably tell you to go fvck yourself and ramble on about how it's her right and you have no authority to tell her what to do on her property, which she is right. Well, at this point, it's time to be vindictive. Dedicated one whole day or night to keeping an eye on her, when she gets into her car to go some where, follow her, call the local police department and tell them that there is a driver swerving really bad in front of you with license plate "XXXXXXXXX" and that you are extremely worried that he/she may hurt herself or someone around her. Tell the operator that you would like to stay anonymous. This won't take the cigarette smoke out of your house, but at least you get to watch her suffer a little bitLast edited by Gaspari1255; 04-25-2012 at 10:50 PM.

Radios and BBQs are not detrimental to one's health, smoking is....
I looked at it like this, Is a BBQ and grilling going to have a long term negative side effects on me or my families lives? No.
Is loud offensive music going to give me lung cancer or damage my health down the road? No.
But, in a smokers defense, since you basically can't smoke on most college campuses, can't smoke in or near parks or schools, etc (In NJ and NY) where are they suppose to smoke? Now, we are complaining when they are smoking on their own property.

Fvck em, they can smoke in a closed room in their basement and that's it!!! You need to go knock on her front door and when she answers kick her right in the twat and then put a knot on top of her fat head and tell her thats for treating a child poorly, then grab her bottle of malt liqueur out of her hand, spin her around, turn it sideways and shove it square up her ass and tell her that's for taking up all the fvcking parking spaces in the neighborhood with her cash for clunkers throwback vehicles. Then tell her you are gawdammed sick and fvcking tired of her blowing her halitosis laden smoke in your direction and she better knock it the fvck off or you'll be back again to square up with her if she doesn't .........that should take care of it.

Props on the drunk drivin idea bronzer..pretty damn good idea..
could also videotape the poor treatment of her son/grandson n call child services
That large fan idea is good too.. get some of those ones they use in the NFL.. hell mist might be cool too..
Line a few of em up facing her house n let em rip.. if they can blow over her lawn furniture, they can blow back the smoke Theres no law about wind right?
For fun you could even have a bonfire with leaves right behind the fans n cover her whole house in thick smokeLast edited by jasc; 04-26-2012 at 07:05 AM.

Non smoker for 43 years,
While the smell is nasty, the amount of actual harmful smoke coming into your house or yard from her smoking outside is very minimal so no need to worry. As far as the langauge that is a different matter altogether, if she is talking loud enough for you to hear it withing your domain I would politely tell her that you are sure she is not aware but your kids can hear her from your yard and that you are sure she would not want to subject your kids to bad language at that age.
If she is White Trash and says don't fvkn worry about it....well game on!
Really though while you could get all bent out of shape and aim a leafblower at her yard with the oil mix at 10 to 1 instead of 50 to 1 ( noisy smoke screen setting) this would set a really bad example for your kids....not that I think you would actually go to that extreme, point I am trying to make is to explain to your kids that this is one of the downsides of living in a free society that we occasionally have to live with things that are objectionable and often should not be done, just explain that for the freedoms we do enjoy its a small price to pay.

Sorry but I have a lot of trouble buying that study. If the study turns out to be valid then I am sure we will be hearing a lot about it as well as the push to include some weed in ciggarettes to reduce their risk of cancer but until both of these take place I am going to dismiss this as a BS study by a bunch of sensationalist morons ( Ilebuyit well edumakatid moreones)

No ones gonna like this But, Damn we live in a free country. Not that I smoke but, shit i dont really care what other people do. I know its annoying but, she is doing it on her own property. That is her right. Why not just tell your kids that is how ignorant grown ups act and speak and dont grow up tp be like them.
Your houses must be really close together if 1 cigarret being smoked is causing you this much concern. I dont want anybody to tell me not to do anything. I do what i want especially on my own property.
My suggestion is either to move or figure out a solution on your end and leave the people alone.

We live in a free country right? So I can sit in MY backyard, and pull my cockk out and masturbate? What if my neighbors kids are out back looking over the fence? Should they be forced to wear blind folds? How about they just "stay inside"? See the point I am getting at? Just because it's YOUR property doesn't mean you are allowed to do shit that is detrimental to ones physical, internal, or mental heath.
Fvck smokers, they should all be bashed in the head with a 100lb DB.

That's the argument I hate is if u don't like it...go away...AS IF its their world and they aren't doing anything wrong...like i said b4 that's actually the only place I feel a smoker should be allowed to.smoke is on their own property so I.suggest one of the fan ideas...he bad language...eh...im sure the kids have heard worse but that could get real annoying if your having a bbq and out tossing ball wit da kids and that seems to be the only thing coming out of the neighbors mouth...maybe the cock thing ain't a bad idea after all....Idk..
But smokers ...keep.away from public areas..majority don't like to breathe/smell it....I respect smokers who ask first if u mind

Go ahead and pull ur cock out and masturbate. I dont care I would be looking over ur fence anyway. If i want to bang my girl in my hot tub in my back yard thats my right your kids shouldnt be looking over my fence. See what im gettin at. I highly doubt that the smoke coming over the fence is detrimental to anyones health.

OH REALLY? Have you heard of this newly discovered strange phenomenon known as "secondhand smoke"?
"During prenatal development, the nervous system may be more susceptible to environmental toxicants, such as secondhand smoke. The authors assessed the effects of prenatal and postnatal secondhand smoke exposure on the neurodevelopment of 6-month infants. The subjects were 414 mother and infant pairs with no medical problems, taken from the Mothers'' and Children''s Environmental Health study. Prenatal and postnatal exposures to secondhand smoke were determined using maternal self-reports. Examiners, unaware of exposure history, assessed the infants at 6 months of age using the Bayley Scales of Infant Development. Bayley scores were compared for secondhand smoke exposed and unexposed groups after adjusting for potential confounders. Multiple logistic regression analysis was carried out to estimate the risk of developmental delay posed by SHS exposure. The multivariate model included residential area, maternal age, pre-pregnancy body mass index, education, income, infant sex, parity, birth weight, and type of feeding. After adjusting for covariates, secondhand smoke exposure during pregnancy was found to be related to a decrease in mental developmental index score, but not to a decrease in psychomotor developmental index score. In addition, secondhand smoke exposure during pregnancy was found to increase the risk of developmental delay (mental developmental index score ≤85) at 6 months. This study suggests that the infants of non-smoking women exposed to secondhand smoke are at risk of neurodevelopmental delay" (1Department of Preventive Medicine and Medical Research Institute, School of Medicine, Ewha Womans University, 911-1)
Didn't the OP say is wife is pregnant? Oh yes he did. But I guess the excerpt from the article I posted above is just a bunch of hogwash and secondhand smoke coming over a fence is harmless right?
