The pictures are not THAT sad. Look at the picture someone posted later on, he is still pretty big there. Granted, it IS a shadow of his former self, but the guy is still leaving jail bigger than anyone else here would if they were thrown in the slammer for 8 months and have access to sub-par diet and no weights!
Muscle memory is an incredible thing, and he should bounce back extremely fast.

Call me crazy, but what is the point to get that MASSIVE, just to lose it all when the chemicals run dry? I know there are many different mindsets when bodybuilding, but if when stopping the drugs deflates you to that extent, that would make me lose my interest. Thats just MY opinion. It would screw with my mind soooo bad and I would never EVER want to stop. How do you mentally accept that your body is only that big due to the constant use of a massive amount of drugs? I've never taken more than 500mg a week, so I am not one who feels the need to be really big. Talk about being addicted to something... Once I hit that level, I dont think there would be anyway I could ever stop.

The difference between Martinez and most of us here is that he is doing this as a profession and getting paid to do it. When he retires, I am very sure that much like all other pros who have retired, he will obviously put the drug use to a halt, or at least bring it down to manageable levels. Take a look at Kevin Levrone and Dorian Yates. Both are obviously not what they used to be. Though they are both still maintaining great physiques and are in great shape - they have no need to be maintaining pro-physiques any more.
I am not using AAS to get massively hulkingly huge, as I know that it would be extremely difficult to maintain such size. I work within my limits, and I know that I am not getting paid to be gigantically huge, and ripped... so I am therefore not going to go out of my way to attempt to be like that.
It all falls into the category of 'to each his own'. I know guys who are attempting to be absolutely massive and are trying anything to get there - but they have no real reason to be doing so from a profession standpoint. It's still just a hobby to them, and all they are doing is creating an extremely expensive hobby. These people I don't understand... but hey if they want to do that, they can go ahead!

I guess the next question is WHY are they doing it for a profession? After being intimately involved in the industry for a long time, I dont see ANYONE making money accept for 5-10 guys and in most cases, I dont consider that "making money" due to the cost of the drugs, food, body breakdown, time in the gym, etc...
You have your exceptions like Ronnie and Jay, but I am not sure even Ronnie has money these days.
Just seems like you have to do it because you like to be a freak and get attention from it. In other words, you just have to love it. Its not for the money... at least they find out really fast that its not about money. Most have HIGH hopes of making money. Most/ nearly all are struggling.
**This post is not intended to offended or belittle a hobby or career. This is just my point of view.

I have spoken to many Bodybuilders and in Victors case, I met up with him and had lunch with him in NY. I know what many of these guys make and if you dont know what they make, you would be shocked. They are the worlds WORST used athletes. The industry will tell you anything to get you on with them when you are on top. Then, next year, you could be out of a job with empty pockets and a lot of empty promises.

Unfortunately the only answer I have for you is: I don't know.
I completely share your view of bodybuilding as a sport. I see it as a fruitless endeavor where you need to funnel more money into it than you get out of it. I am well aware of what the pros make, and the dirty underworld that is involved in the sport of bodybuilding that a lot of pros have to dabble in, in order to keep their heads above water (lets not get into that). This is why I really roll my eyes a lot when I encounter people (either in the gym out out of the gym) who ramble on about how they're training to compete, and how they are going to make it so far and get their pro cards, blah blah blah. The 'sport' of bodybuilding really is the worst 'sport' in the world. And, the further the whole culture is driven underground, the worse it becomes. Why do a lot of the pros continue on the paths that they do despite the pittance they receive, and the untold amounts of BS they have to put up with? A lot of them say something along the lines of how its just such a passion for them and they love doing it. I don't buy that, not 100%. I believe for most of these guys, they've been into this for so long and so hard that its the ONLY thing they know how to do - the only thing they are left to do. Essentially, many of them are locked into it.

I hope everyone learned from this thread and transformation stages that professional BBing is 90% DRUGS and GENETICS.
I don't think Victors amazing diet and "hard work" blew him up again in 8 weeks..

It's the worst run sport in the history of mankind.
Here's why most guys who have pro cards continue on with it. In the grand scheme of life no one would call them famous or anything, but these guys don't live in the normal world. Most of your current competing pro's live on the road about half the year and they spend a massive amount of time at events where they are praised...little boys ask for their autographs and the women there want them in the sack. It may be one of the smallest segments of the population, but at these events they feel like superstars, and these events are where they live. They leave those events and enter into the real world and they are surrounded by people who fawn all over them, referring to their gym buddies, and other people for the bodybuilding events...this is there circle, there are no outsiders.
They are kings in this world of theirs, and while it may be a filthy, corrupt and low paying world, it's still hard not to get addicted to any type of attention where people are telling you how fantastic you are.
Now I do think you have to have a strong passion and enjoyment for this type of thing to continue it. Even with the weird admiration in its cult circle it brings, if you don't actually like bodybuilding you won't last. Personally, I see nothing wrong with this part of it. We all have things we enjoy. Some guys play golf, I have buddies who build cars and race spending insane amounts of money...all of that bores me to tears. It's all about what you like. Now the problem with bodybuilding though is the attention some of these guys get in their little weird world is used in a way that holds them as slaves and they have no idea. They're told by MD or Flex mag about how great they are, some supplement company promises the world and they truly assume when it's all said and done they will be just as well off as Arnold is. These guys actually believe that, it's what they're sold and despite only one Arnold ever existing they still believe it.

Being a novice on this board.. I don't think it was the raman noodles and tuna packets from the cantina, or the bologna sandwich and a pint of suger enriched fruit juice..
I think I don't want to be all hulked up, I mean seriously I envy guys who are that big.. But I think I want the strength, like old school strong men bending steel bars and picking up trucks from the back bumper...
