I've got a problem with abandoned pools and mosquitos
I need some help/ideas. There are 3 foreclosed houses on my street and all of them have really big pools. These pools long ago turned green and are filled with frogs...which means they are also probably filled with mosquito larvae. So I walk outside today and I get swarmed by mosquitos, as in literally slapping handfuls of them on my legs and arms. It's bad...
Anyway...do you guys know of anything I could put in the water to kill the larvae? I did an experiment a while ago and found them to be quite resilient to most household cleaners/products.
My gf suggested oil. Any other ideas?

I'd google around. They had to do something in LA after Katrina.

If you have some extra cash you can go to lowes/Home Depot and buy some pool shock and chlorine and dump inside the water. That will take care of all the problems you listed. Or you can go see if the pool pump can drain the pools.
If the pool has water in it and the house has electricity for the pumps to circulate I would just buy the shock and chlorine and have a pool party a week later.

You can pick up the shock anywhere.. Kmart, Walmart, Amazon.. it's like $3-$4/lb. (1 lb. treats 10-12,000 gallons)

Pool shock is he way to go. It is cheap and you just have to poor it in and walk away.

A lot of cities spray for mosquitos, I think knowing there are vacant pools with infestations is something they might take interest in, to the point of issuing the owners a notice to drain them. Likely nothing would happen forever though. the shock should fix it quick but won't last forever.
