    Just Q about car...

I am trying to figure out how much to spend on a used car base on my yearly salary...for example if I make 30k a year would it be wise to spend that much on a car or should I double to 60-90k?
The only reason I haven't done anything because I always consider that to be a bad investment, but then again I have no wife, kids and life is too short lol.

Depends on what you want. . . Just a question though. How can you swing a 60-90k vehicle with a 30k a year salary?

A new vette would be awesome, but new cars are a bad investment. So try to find a one year old vehicle which has lost a lot of it's primary value. You'll get a great car with low miles at a decent price if you shop savvy. Take along a friend who knows cars and think of resale value as well when choosing your car. Just my 2 cents. And remember some cars like the vette are seasonal cars and don't get around well in the winter. Something else to keep in mind is how much the insurance is going to be on the car you choose and also don't go so far overboard on your payments that you get into a bind if something breaks down on it or you have a emergency in your life from something else. It's a balancing act.

I used 30k as an example, that's all.

I agree with everyone else, that's just crazy even if it's an example only. No way do you spend even 1/2 of your yearly salary.
I also agree with others you should not buy new, you loose 5K when you drive off the lot. I always buy 2-3 years old. That way most all recalls are taken care of and you can find out about any problems it may have. Dont rely on manufacturer or sale sites, look for forums such as this one that is the kind of car specific you are looking for then you can see real world problems and advice. Even if you qualify for the credit dont buy a 30K+ car. Buy within your means. I would suggest nothing more than 5K - 7K and thats if your debt is low or non existent right now. Not get yourself in further debt. Save and buy with cash if you can. Remember you will have to pay more in insurance cost for a nicer, newer car so take everything into account.

Man, you insane, you might aswell get a 90k loan for a boat load of hookers and coke, it'd be more a sane investment than a car. Unless you are going to buy a proper classic car that is going to appreciate in value any other car in the world worth 90k will be worth less than half what you bought it for in a year.

How about don't go into debt for a car? Only spend an amount you have, and still leaves you with your savings for other things, and emergency money, and then even spend much less imo. Cash is the way to go when buying vehicles, just my opinion.

If you think you really want a loan, I would go with a care well under your yearly salary. But of course that really depends on where you live and your various costs of living. Maybe 1/3 of what you make in a year? Certainly wouldn't go double and triple, even half is a huge burden.

most people dont have that much cash laying around. To get a used car that is reliable is probably still 8-10k.

Maybe not, but is something you can save up for. Its still better to save for an 8k car than to get a loan on a 24k car. Sure initially you will have to set aside just as much money for the 8k car, but one will take 1 year, the other will leave you with a 5 year extra burden. I'm stuck with a car payment on one of our three vehicles i wish i did not have, great vehicle so I hope i don't completely regret it.

One thing I noticed when I was over in America was the second hand car market. The price of secondhand cars in america is mental. Over here you'd be getting E39 M5's for 8/9k Dollars in good nick some of them.

I look at as I am financing my own car through me. . . .

Lets say I own a car, I buy it for 10k. After years of miles and abuse it drops to 3k in value. That takes about 5 years.

In 5 years it is not hard to stack back a grand a year.

Since I finance me, I don't charge "me" interest.

Fvck feeding the machine. I have never had a car note and I could care less about owning a "brand new car" - You buy it for 30k and within a year it's worth 20k if that < great deal

Last car was a Lexus IS300. Bought it for 11k then gave it to the Axe Wife, she had it forever then sold it for 3k. The car was still worth way more. She's an idiot and just gave the car way.

Bought it with 90k+ and sold it with about 220k.

Find a IS300 in half decent shape for under 4k. If you find one, let me know. . . . They are still damn expensive.

I'm thinking of getting a iS350 for my next DD.

^^^^agree never buy new, unless you freakin loaded!!! as soon as you drive a new car off the lot, you've lost 20% value or more.

I would buy something that is two years old. Try not to finance much, if anything at all.

You say life is too short...but it isn't true. It isn't short at all and the decisions you make today will have a big impact on your future.

Not anymore Dan, the Yen has sky rocketed ITR's and S15's are worth more in Japan than over here by a good couple of grand. And it's getting hard to get stuff too.

Really? Where will I get a clean s15 then

I always assumed that when the country went on the dole people just stopped importing them

What about that law over there that car has to have under X amount of miles to be on road, will that not force them to export for pennies?

Fvck, to get a fully Americanized Skyline(R34) would cost right around 100k including the car.

    Lmfao are you serious?

20k will get you a nice 400-500bhp r34 if you look around for a couple months, they come up every so often

Shit 100k will nearly get you a ferrari f430 with a few miles on her

Damn 430's have got down in price. . . .

I haven't seen a skyline for sale near forever. 20k for a r34 is still extremely unlikely.
