Who grew up in the 80's?
I was born in 82, but dont remember the 80's at all. What did I miss? Seems like it was a cool time period, lots of music Def Leppard jams and such. Ronald Reagan, lots of people making money.

born in 77 so i did.
I dont know if it was better. But kids could do alot more. Or atleast where i grew up. We would take our bikes and go anyplace. Parents never knew where you were, whats friends house you were going to. We used to take the train a few towns over and check things out.
Now parents need to what you are doing 24/7 but kids now got better things then we didIf people can't tell your on steroids then your doing them wrong

the pin ball machine i had was japanese style pachinco board. it was an actual machine used in the gaming parlours in tokyo back in the early 60's. guy had a whole garage full of em across the street (worked for the airlines) so I bought one off him for $25 in the very early 70's.

I remember quite a bit from the 80's. I remember watching the Bud Dwyer incident on TV. Traumatized me as a kid. I remember going down to the creek with my friends to collect tadpoles, making bike ramps and wandering through the woods by my house. Most of it was just doing stuff that kids today should be out doing (but don't). I remember getting a colleco system for xmas that played all the Sega games and an original Nintendo too.

When I was a young kid we had an Atari 5200. Qbert and Frogger were awesome. Also, my first computer was a Commodore 64. We actually had to program some of our own games from a book my dad bought us. Also, in the 80s, kids could be kidnapped at any moment and never seen or heard from again... at least according to my mom... lol... she was pretty paranoid about that stuff.

Do any of you guys remember the Adam Walsh story? I grew up within walking distance of where that happened and at that young of age it scared the fvck out of me. I wouldn't leave my mom's side at a department store for anything.

Graduated high school in '87. I love all the iconic 80s pop that you always hear in movies and music collections. I had great timing with computers and games too. I was a kid when Pong came out and I have a recollection of the entirety of gaming history. I was in junior high when they introduced their first programming class.
Gixxer is right about freedom before cell phones. I was always miles from home on my bike with no way for my parents to contact me. I am glad I had the freedom but also realize today's kids are safer because of technology.
TV has grown from 5 to hundreds of channels, multiple music formats have come and gone, communication is now effortless, medicine has made huge advances, women and minorities are less oppressed and technology has changed the world around me at a near unimaginable pace. The list of how awesome things are is huge.

I miss atari. I remember a bit of my first decade of life. And yeah it was a lot different of course I was a kid so who knows. I could ride dirt bikes where ever I wanted, places were less populated and developed. was outside non stop. And I loved my horizontal strike shirt, and my other crazy clothes, and loved never wearing jeans. I never wore a pair of jeans until the 90s.
