She has had to have several Bone Marrow draws. Not anything I would ever want to do. Best of luck to your brother and his speedy recovery. If you/he hasnt yet look into detoxification. It's supposed to help a lot with Chemo recovery and even without chemo battling cancer.
Thanks lov and so sorry to hear about your mom. 3 of my grandparents, and several family members have passed from it as well.

We'll definitely look into detoxification for him. He did something like that last time but not sure if it's the same thing.

Scum of the earth as far as I'm concerned. He got through his biopsy today and all went well. Now we just wait for the results and wait to see how soon he can get in the for the marrow extraction.

My brother does his fair share, no question. I believe this to be true as well and if it does help, he'll have that advantage.

Dan is going in for a bone marrow biopsy today to hopefully rule out stage 4.

    Nova, GGR, AG, thank you.

Just spoke with his doc and she's saying now that he'll probably need a bone marrow transplant when they get him in remission again. She's concerned about the reoccurrence and says that a transplant is the best way to help ensure that he's cured forever.

Now they need to confirm what stage and start treatment. My mother can't even talk to me on the phone right now. Can't understand what she's saying. I had an 11am meeting that I'm late to and can't even go into right now.

    Fvck cancer.

I'm hoping your brother can find a treatment that keeps in him remission.

I'll keep praying for your brother, you, and your family for some comfort as well.

You mentioned before there was an issue with insurance. If he is having to pay out of pocket start a gofundme for him. That's what I did for my friend.

Although it has not even close to paid for her bills or the transplant it has helped with a few blood transfusions and small bills.

    Prayers for your family

Thanks again guys and thank you lov.

Yes, his insurance is awful. They went back and forth on covering his anesthesia and we were going to cover it to get it done. Then they said they would cover it but when he went in today all of a sudden they're not covering it.

So his doc is now going to bat for him with the insurance company because she said he's so scared and shakey that she refuses to do it because she's afraid he'll be jumpy. No sh*t?! How the fvck does anyone expect anyone to stay still for something like that?

So now, they're apparently going to cover a portion of it but it got postponed (again) until next Wednesday. What a damn nightmare.

Anyway, my brothers good friends and roommates are setting up a fund for him so we do have that.

There is no fvckn way I could do it without being knocked out.
I remember they use to make everyone e stay awake because they believe it would contaminate the bone marrow. No way..

Good to hear he has friends and you looking out for him.

Me neither, no way in hell. When they diagnosed him, they gave him a script for Xanax which he took beforehand and was still freaked out.

Thing that pisses me off, is the disorganization and seeming disregard for the problem at hand. I mean, do the damn procedure and then worry about who's going to satisfy the bill.

Time is of the essence with stuff like this. There's going to be a day, a minute, a moment in time when stage 2 turns into 3, when 3 turns into 4, and they've already canceled and postponed these things multiple times now. It's just not right.

It is a terrible situation in healthcare when they postpone and take their time because they do not consider it an "emergency". Yet that doesn't mean there isn't urgency. I'm hoping you all find positive solutions soon.

That is the plan, my friend. We've got some fun planned along with some good food and relaxation. So looking forward to it, and already bummed that it will be over so fast.

    Have a great day, AG.

The frustration has really gotten the better of me on several occasions with this whole thing, but plan to have a relaxing and hopefully stress free weekend together. Thanks DCI.

I will have to check and see, not sure.

I know she had a few problems where she was holding a lot of fluid afterwards.

Thanks clarky. The support is truly appreciated. I'm not so open about this at work and need to be strong for the family so it feels good to be able to talk about this here and release the tension.

My brother is here and it's so great to be with him. He's knocked out already and I'm just sitting here on the couch with a fire on drinking a whiskey. The haw is sleeping and I'll turn in soon. Asked my bro what he wants to do this weekend and he said, eat and lay around, go for a walk if we feel like it and watch football. Hell yes.

I'm generally a patient person but it's been hard to keep it together. I just want him to beat this and he needs all the help he can get. When the insurance companies who are supposed to be helping, are d*cking around all the time, it's tough to stay level headed about it. Enjoying the time right now. We'll worry about this next week.

Have they already screened for donors, Igi or is that a later step in the process?

We need to discuss more and dig a little deeper, but from our conversation with the doc and reading, the first ones they look to believe it or not are brothers or sisters, so I would be first in line, if a donor is needed. The doc said said they wanted to give him very aggressive chemo treatments that would require him to have a transplant afterward.

So I think it's a conversation for a little down the road but hopefully sooner than later. My mom was reading about it this morning and sent me this.

Indeed we will. Dan is a fellow metal lover as well. Since we live so far apart (and always have) we haven't had the opportunity to go to many shows together but have been to a few.

Figured close kin was the best option. Back when my mother was alive and wasn't doing well with dialysis, her nephrologist had mentioned a kidney transplant. Seems like they wanted to do some testing to see if I was a good candidate for a donor, but said that one of her siblings would be a better choice.
