Picking up my new puppy this weekend

I studded out my chesapeake bay retriever and now I get to go pick out the puppy, very excited. For anyone who hunts on here you can not be a chesapeake for duck hunting.

Nice. Do you live in the MD area? Just curious because that's where they're 'native' to, correct? I have a golden lab (it's his 5th birthday today.. well yesterday)

I live up north on the minnesota north dakota border. Chesapeakes are really popular up here because of our frigid water. I have hunted sea ducks out in maryland tho very pretty state.

Our whole family are chesapeake owners and they are more stubborn then other retriever breeds but when it comes to birdyness and pure drive no retriever beats a chesapeake. They are also one of the few hunting dogs who are still largely bred for hunting. Imo for retrieving it would go Chesapeake, lab then everything else lol.

I also own a German shorthaired pointer who is probably the best upland dog I have ever hunted behind but I broke the mold with that one cause the rest of my family is english setter owners and my wife has an afgan hound so we will end up with 4 big dogs luckily I live in the sticks so they get plenty of excerise.

Do you hunt with your lab?

Dogs are like small children. They are great as long as they belong to someone else and when you get tired of them you can send them home.

    Some are rather tasty too.
