Casein Protein a bad deal for us?

Friend came over last night and saw my line of protein jugs along the wall, he's been in the fitness industry since he was 19 as PT, Sales and now GM of the biggest 24 Fitness in SD, and all around well read and versed individual. He narrowed in on the casien protein, and said if I knew a lot about, I said, no really just its good for bedtime and a good slow release. He's not the argumentitive type and just said, do some research on it, so ive been doing that over the past week and just have come up with some good and bad news about it..I dont want to give it up, but does anyone know about this stuff, know of any solid replacements or heard of Milk Protein Concentrate (MPC) a better form or do you guys even use it? Ill provide some links of both good and bad and you tell me what you think. But you can do you own research either way let me know.

There were a few studies showing a mix of casien and whey to be superior to any other protein powder. Im on my phone ill try and find them later.

I don't agree with everything in the positive video. That said I don't waste time with casein, I do drink raw milk though.

Didn't watch the positive but the negative was quite interesting. Gonna have to look further into this.

You ever drink whole milk? Honestly I think it tastes really good, hard to tell much difference, it obviously depends on the cows but I drink the stuff with all the cream and everything. Nothing gross about it. It also separates when sitting, so if you want to take the cream off the top you can scoop it and use it for whip cream or whatever, or remove it and have milk with less fat, but that cream is powerful stuff, good for you imo.

Is there a lot of fat or lard in it?

Still up for debate like many other dairy products. But, it is fat and heavy fat. Look at the nutritional info on a cream carton.

I think it's damn decent fat when you need it added to your diet. Can't see myself on a cut even thinking about whole milk though. . .lol

lard is rendered animal fat I believe, so wouldn't call it that. But the fat, cream, sits on the top and it can be scooped off. I just shake it up and drink it. Use it in my protein shakes, some plain whey, some dextrose, some cocoa powder, and a ton of raw milk, good stuff.

it has about the same calories as whole milk, and same ratio of fat protein carbs.

It has casein and whey just like regular milk. I pay $4 a gallon for mine from my coworkers neighbor. I get it out of state because it is illegal where i live unless you own a cow share. So we do a little smuggling across state lines.

edit: actually the guy who owns the farm is a police officer, and on the fire department, and runs his little farm. And has like 5 kids at least that i saw. Busy guy would seem.

Were do you live, here in california i can buy that right at Ralph's.. funny thing about cali, they love limited freedoms with personal right but its the health food and alternative food mecca of the world..i could not een begin to tell you the amazing stuff we get here. we have farmers markets that bring fresh organic produce and they set up street fairs one ever day of the week one in little italy, pacific beach, ocean beach, north park, hill crest. you can go to a new one ever day and buy straight from the farmer. its so cool i dont do it as much as i should mainly because prices are higher, but its worth it if you have the coin, then we have whole foods (whole paycheck) as i call it, sprouts a competitor to whole foods and then we have trader joes and other random spots...its pretty cool

I've only ever purchased a casein protein powder ONCE in my whole life, and that was about 6 or 7 years ago.

I haven't done it since because its just ridiculously expensive, and.... why not just eat cottage cheese instead? Every night for my pre-bed meal, I includea 1/2 cup of 1% cottage cheese and just eat that. Far cheaper and more effective (and less processed) than these stupid casein powders.
