    Hot/Cold?

After a work out.. I like taking a cold shower, its like 90s here LA county.. but I feel pretty good about it.. I read an article mentioning that NFL players take ice cold baths after a workout, supposedly speeds recovery.. Does anyone here go all out with a ice bath? and does it work?

From what I've read, while taking a shower if you alternate hot/cold after a workout it helps to ease the lactic acid build-up.. Maybe they do it for decreased soreness? that'd be my guess..

This sounds good, but it's broscience. Your body will have buffered your blood lactate or used it to create energy long before you walk out of the gym. The only way to "ease lactic acid build up" is to train your body to buffer higher levels of it through intense exercise.

I start out hot/warm shower but gradually go cooler until it's almost cold when I'm done. I need to soak the head and body in cold water otherwise I continue sweating a good 30 minutes after my workout or shower.

I'll do contrast baths, one tub with ice water and the other with hot water. I do about 45 seconds in each one and keep going back and forth for 5-10 min depending on how bad my body is feeling!!

Yeah man, any time I have a strain or injury I do these. We used to do it to our patients when I worked in physical therapy so I have added it into my training when needed.

I do cold showers in the summer, but not ice baths,(would like to try). THh theory on icing and ice baths is that the cold will restrict blood vessels, pushing blood away from muscles(idea is to get blood out of trauma area, in our case muscles worked and damaged from workout), then when you warm up your body will pull fresh blood back to muscles and it will help flush out the area and speed recovery.

I do a hot shower and then gradually turn it cold and bear it for about two minutes. Leaves me feeling refreshed! Not sure if it helps with lactic acid but I just do it for the brand new feeling.

Contrast showers, helps with recovery. As cold as you can for as long as you can handle it, be it 30 seconds minute whatever, then crank up the heat, do it a few times, doesn't take long. Invigorates you, and a lot of athletes use it.

It is usually for 30 seconds each as you want a quick contraction the dialation of the muscles. This helps flush out any toxins and provides fresh blood to the area, almost like a pump.

And knowing is half the battle... I'm glad I asked this question... So seriously people have two tubs of water at home, or is this like a training camp/professional gym?

    Do you really?

I think my bawls would hide in my ass if I were to take a dip in a real ice bath.
