Bill Nye "the science guy" is awsome
Bill Nye goes off on the the religious right because of Todd Akin's comments.
Bill Nye may still be The Science Guy, but he's no longer Mr. Nice Guy.
During a live interview this morning with the Smithsonian Channel, the mild mannered science educator unloaded on U.S. Congressman Todd Akin, calling him "a ****ing idiot" for accusing Nye of personally provoking Hurricane Issac.
Last week Nye uploaded a video to Youtube urging parents not to teach their children creationism. At a town hall campaign event yesterday, Akin used the video as an example of immoral behavior driving god to punish America through extreme weather.
Although reporters reached out to Nye for a statement yesterday, his first discussion of the matter came this morning at Smithsonian's Washington D.C. headquarters.
Nye Got a Feeling...
The 56 year old star of the long-running "Bill Nye The Science Guy" was in the studio to promote his new documentary series focusing on the neuroscience of childhood development.
After briefly discussing his show, the Smithsonian anchors asked Nye about Akin's recent accusation. The normally genial Nye wasted no time venting his rage about the comments:
"Look, these people they're ****ing retarded. Rape can't cause pregnancy? Breastmilk cures homosexuality? I caused a hurricane by challenging creationism? Who can possibly take these people seriously anymore?"
The slightly uncomfortable anchors then tried to change the subject, but Nye persisted:
"It used to be these Republicans didn't believe in global warming or evolution. That was bad enough. Now they don't even believe in egg + sperm = baby. Where does Todd Akin think babies come from? Does he think there are separate storks for people who were raped and people who weren't? "
"Hey look over there! It's the rape stork. It drops off all its babies directly at the orphanage."
"He's a ****ing idiot. Just a plain ****ing idiot. I'm sorry - I don't say that word very often - but it happens to fit in this case. He's just a ****ing idiot."
A Decent Proposal
As the stunned anchors hurriedly tried to wind the conversation down and cut to commercial, Nye stared directly into the camera and issued a challenge to his new-found rival:
"So Todd I got an offer for you. You and me. Any time. Any place. Debating science mano- a-mano. I'll bring the facts, and you bring the Vaseline. Because your ass is gonna ****ing need it when I'm done whipping."
Nye apologized once more for his language before ripping off his microphone and walking off the set.If people can't tell your on steroids then your doing them wrong

Bill Nye did piss some people off recently with his "creationism isn't suitable for children" comments.

I have always been a huge fan of Bill Nye, not only from his days of Bill Nye The Science Guy, but also his strong advocation for science and question-based learning. I love how he promotes it and tells it like it is these days.

I don't understand why having smaller government and responsible spending has to be coupled with gross beliefs on women, gays and the poor. I like Christians, they tend to be trustworthy and friendly neighbors, but I want their beliefs to stop at the fence that separates our houses.

I think most Christians would say the same thing in return. However, for some reason it's often deemed acceptable when others state their differing views to the world as long as those views are not Christian based. Speak out against abortion, gay marriage or any hot button social issue and you're bashed into the ground and called a lunatic who needs to keep his views to himself. Speak about these things in a manner that takes a pro-choice or pro-gay marriage stance and you're praised. Regardless of one's beliefs, this seems like a pretty cut and dry double standard.
BTW, I'm not sure what you were referring to when you mentioned the poor. Can you elaborate?

the reason i think its a double standard is because the pro life or anti gay marriage laws effect everyone no matter their beliefs. If your pro choice your not making people get abortions. If your pro life you make everyone go along with your beliefs. They would have no choice. Same thing with gay marriage. If its legal its not like you have to go marry a same sex partner. But if its illegal it restricts everyone. So for me alot of the rights positions effects everyone no matter what you believe. Your freedoms are gone. If its all legal it doesnt effect anyone that doesnt want to be effected by it.

I am not even really pro abortion as much as I am against religion or other ideology setting an extreme set of rules for everyone to follow. I agree with Gixxer above.

I understand what your saying, but the problem with issues like abortion and gay marriage is that the arguments are not based on two sides of the same coin. They're almost like arguing which is better, apples or Home Depot. The arguments against the other side don't make sense. Think about it, with abortion pro-choice bases its argument on the right to choose what to do with her body, while the pro-life argument has nothing to do with a woman's body but rather the baby. A better argument would be, is the baby growing inside a living human being? If not, then do whatever you want, if it is a living human being then abortion is no different than murder...but the two sides do not argue it this way. Same thing with gay marriage. Two sides arguing two points from two different coins.
