Doctor :-).. dont like being sick, so when i get sick or are coming down with a cold, i go see a doctor right away, so he can give me medication right away, so it wont get worst.....
NyQuil and a lot of sleep for me.
Ever hear of cold fx? I was sick this morning and took 1 and starting to feel better already!
Plan b is a "herbal remedy" followed by eating, and them lots o sleep... Stress the herbal part![]()
Man, i spend like 100 bucks a month all winter on cold fx. Never get sick taking it everyday regardless of how i feel. I swear by it!!Originally Posted by >Good Luck<
Vitamin C won't do much but make you pee a lot. The body can only absorb a limited amount of C and the rest is excreted through the kidneys.Originally Posted by jklipouse
Zinc, vitamin A, and magnesium are better remedies as they stimulate immune responses better. Hydration is important as is eating as much food as you can tolerate. If you have GI symptoms, bland foods are best. Rest, rest, rest.
You should probably take a few days off from the gym, especially if it's something respiratory, I've turned a cold into pneumonia that way and trust me that is going to cost you a lot more time if it get's worse.
zinc is supposed to reduce the severity and duration of a common cold by 50%.
And, PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THE GYM WHEN YOU ARE SICK!
Too many do go, and spread their disease to non infected members. If you are sick, please stay home and recover, which is what you need to do anyways.
Cheers!
Let me tell you, living in Northwestern PA for most of my life.. u figure out some ways to keep out the colds!! I've been sick prolly almost every winter, sometimes even twice or thrice... it got to be quite annoying (until i moved to southern florida, but another story). So i finally was able to formulate a pretty good plan to counteract any time a cold threatened. And it has worked in less than 24hrs every time. What you need is as follows:
-1000mg Vit C tabs
-B Complex Supp
-1 box of herbal Green Tea
-Sleep aid (nyquil or anything) OR
-Caffeine (In any form, if you need to be working)
Take 2000mg vit c, 2 b complex tabs, 2 bags of green tea, sleep aid OR 200mg of caffeine if you are working. Take this every 2 hours if you are on your feet, or once before sleep and every time you wake up from sleep. Obviously, sleeping and rest is the preferred method of recovery, but this will help boost ur immune system if you need cant get off from ur job or have tasks u need to complete. Its cheap, and it will work. Best of all, when you are recovered you can just take the unused items and add them to ur daily supplement regimen.
Hope this helps! Best of luck

I learned of a study done back in my undergrad where the only positive correlation that came from reduction of cold symptoms and vit C was using a megadose, anything under 10,000IU will not heed much, but going above that actually helped with the immune system. Sorry i don't have any sources to cite, but i def wouldn't remember this unless i felt it important because its what i do every time i get a cold
But agreed REST! def the most important factor, also fluids obviously and stay away from anything dairy
quite simply rest until better, if its a cold i usually eat like a lunatic with plenty of citrus fruits and it seems to clear up faster. vomiting bugs you cant really do much about

You'll be fine, take some Vitamin C and take a deep breath.
Contrary to what everyone is saying on here, I personally think fasting is the best thing to do when I have a cold. Or just eat foods that are easy to digest, such as soup, eggs, protein powder , cottage cheese etc. this will let your body focus on strengthening it's immune system and fighting off the cold instead of expending energy on digesting foods.
I know there is some out there, but I'm just saying Iv tried it and it seems to speed up recovery.Originally Posted by dec11
