And you can still buy it in food stores. but if you go to a restaurant the glass cant be more then 16 oz. You can get refills or 2. But yea no half gallon cups at McDonalds.
If people can't tell your on steroids then your doing them wrong

I thought it had been a while in the making. But they just voted this morning 9-0 to put it into full swing, theaters, malls, etc...

    freedom implies choice.

You got a point man, the thing is, since they're used to those sized drinks and whatnot, a smaller portion won't satisfy them. They'll get another one anyway. It's easy to be a fat ass it's much harder to have self control and say alright there were 50g of sugar in that drink I don't need another soda for another week haha. You have to make the choice yourself, bans and higher prices won't do anything except make people spend more

McDonald's is the pinnacle of capitolism in the world, i can't believe they didn't throw a ton of money at this to make it go away, yet again they will prob up the price on a 16oz and offer a value meal with two of them. They could call it the Mcfatass meal. Wait, that wasn't funny....damn

I hate trash like this that doesn't allow us choice. Problem is we hold people's hands that fvkc themselves up by making poor choices, so they think they need to regulate that from happening.

Yeah I actually think they would support this. Only reason to keep going bigger is to keep all the fat asses buying your product not to comps. Now the field is leveled and they will make more revenue via sodas

i do agree with you. Its just sad they have to make laws about it. Unfortunately obesity cost us and the government tons of money. So if the laws do cut down on that its worth it.

You shouldnt be allowed to become a fatass burden on society, I see why thier putting this kind of shit in place....BUT thier slowly pecking away at our freedoms; of choice, if I want a large soda I have every right to spend MY money how and where I want, if I want to be a fat POS that doesnt care about him/her self, thats my right to make those choices. As long as my rights do not infringe on someone elses, I should be able to do it....and in Cali all epervesant (carbonated) drinks are taxed by the state.

It's quite simple America is the fattest country in the world.. Bigger people replace soda for water it causes so much problems.. Diabetes obesity ect... Thus causing us at a health risk and having to pay higher health insurance. I agree with this because because if you don't regulate certain things people will go overboard (alcohol as example) face it were going down a dangerous path as a country there's a fast food place on every corner.. Burgers cost 1$ meanwhile salads cost 4..

Man I drank a few mexican cokes made with get this some ingredient called REAL CANE SUGAR! Can you imagine them putting something real in the soft drink? And it tasted really different to me but better than that super high fructose corn syrup that is in nearly everything we eat or drink. The soda industry says it replaced the cane sugar with the high fructose corn syrup because the American government in it's wonderful wisdom decided to subsidized American cane sugar farmers instead of letting the market decide it's prices. so Cane sugar growers always receive extremely high prices for producing cane sugar in the states as American taxpayers foot the big fat checks to them. That isn't so down in Mexico where cane sugar is much cheaper to use in products such as soda. The real kicker is that the high fructose corn syrup substitute that all the food and soda processors are using due to it's cheap prices, is way so much more damaging to the human body than cane sugar, causing the majority of insanely massive amounts of morbidly obese Americans. So in effect we have our own government interference by subsidizing cane sugar to help blame the over use of deadly high fructose corn syrup that our generation has been force fed. So whenever anyone asks you...Hey Buddy Were Did You Get That Fat Azz At? You can proudly tell them My Government gave it to me..

Cut the subsidies to corn farmers and start taxing the fructose heavy foods/drinks.

Like I said before, it's one of those things that if we keep taking care of people, than we will continue to lose more freedoms. People are worried about others bad choices costing the government money, it's the governments own fault for picking up the bill and using our tax dollars on it.

Even without government it cost us all more. Obesity comes with bigger medical cost. So you don't think the health insurance companys aren't raising everyones rates to make up for it?

Dennis Leary said it best. Not less drugs (or other vice), more drugs and give them to the right people. If Fatty McChunkypants wants to drink himself into a soda driven diabetic coma, rock on. Let him do it. Just don't give him free/govt subsidized medical care for it. Let his fat ass die. If a firefighter smokes where I come from they don't get covered for smoke inhalation on their medical insurance. Same should go for people who abuse any other substance. Sugar, alcohol, etc...

it's the only thing that will allow us to have free universal health care... we have to have something that will kill off and shorten the life expectancy of these people.

Ya for sure valid point. And it would be impossible to implement regulations within the insurance company against people who drank those drinks.

I haven't drank soda in 16 years, other than a handful of times. But I still think banning oversized drinks is a bit crazy.

What I'm saying is that if your liver is failing due to alcohol abuse you should have to pay for it. Diabetes from over eating, same thing. It is medically possible to determine if genetics or outside influences made a person sick over personal negligence.

If they'd just allow insurance companies to deny coverage to obese people or exclude obesity related conditions from what they'll cover, the money problem wouldn't be an issue. They allow insurance companies to deny coverage to healthy people for a number of reasons, why not this?

Exactly... Serriously it should be if your taking precautions with your health you should be rewarded with cheaper healthcare.. Not have the same price as some chubbo who's eating half his body weight in fry's because he had a hard day at work.. Not saying that it's everybody fault because some people got bad genetics but that's not an excuse... Just means you gotta work that much harder..

Obviously, we'd be pretty pissed. But then we really couldn't do anything about it either.
