Motorcycle Jackets?
I need something in a decent motorcycle jacket with a more athletic cut.
I can't get a decent fit. I've tried a few different brands on at the local shops, but to no avail. I'm on the verge of just buying oversize and taking it to someone to see if they can cut it down. I don't know what else to do.
I know there's a number of you who ride here... so do you guys have any suggestions for a good motorcycle jacket? What do you ride with?
Thanks!

You talking leather ? All leathers fit different so i wont even give advice on them. My Joe Rocket ballistic fits great. Its a good summer night jacket. Short waist, long arms and fit big shoulders great. Just wouldnt want to drop my bike at 200 with it on. More of an around town jacket.

What type of bike are you riding?
For cooler weather, I'm just using my leather single patch Corvette jacket. Unfortunately, we haven't had all the much cooler weather in So Cal lately. So, I just go with either my jean jacket or a couple pull overs I have. I just got my Kawi Concours 14 about 3 weeks ago, so I guess I need to get some Kawi attire.

I wear an icon textile and I've heard nothing but good things about their leather jackets. icon is a bit expensive, but I really like the textile jacket I have.

Nice Honda's guys! That 954 has to be quick as lightning. My Kawi is 1352cc, which is way more than I really need at 45yo, but hey, I'm having a lot of fun!

Try before you buy or go the custom route. Look at the larger european sizes. They have cuts for the not so typical american. If you're tall it's more of a challenge. But in general they have better athletic cuts, if you can find your size.

I bought a great leather jacket from Wilson's House of Leather.
If you plan on modifying, FIRST talk to the tailor and get some insight from him first. THEN buy the jacket. the alteration will probably run over $100 or more.
I have to laugh at my buddy. He bought a custom leather jacket ($700) years ago when he was fat (5'9" 240lbs). then he lost a bunch of weight (down to 170lbs) and bought another custom leather jacket ($500). Now he's pushing 200lbs and thinking of getting another jacket??? I've had the same jacket all these years ($180 off the rack) and it still fits great.
btw, what a lot of blokes do is to get an expandable leather vest, and just wear that over a jean jacket. I like the look. Not as safe as 100% if you go down, but really inexpensive and looks good.

Definitely look around and make sure you try them and find a quality store. I had a nice leather jacket a few years back that I got on sale at a wholesale show for $100. A month after buying it I busted 2 zippers and the seams started coming apart. I haven't found a good one in the same style (like in terminator lol) since.
Right now I just use my leather vest, if it's warm enough. Otherwise, I wear my old football jacket. Too bad HD jackets are so expensive.

I like my First Gear Scout jacket (leather). Fits good and wearable from 35 - 85 degrees F by using liner in cold weather and opening vents when its hot. (Below freezing I use heated gear liner under it on long trips)
Also water resistant so I wear it in rain without rain gear.

Definately try before you buy. I have an Icon leather and a textile jacket. I tried on all the brands. Icon fit me best at the time because I had alot around the waist. Alpinestars have more of an adonis cut. Wide at the shoulders and a skinny waist. I thought the Alpinestars jackets seemed to be cheaply made with crap zippers.
I have gone down in my Icon leather jacket and it held up like leathers should. I would buy another jacket from them in a heartbeat.
Try before you buy online.
